Sign Faye, he's a better centre half than Knight and a better midfield player than Muamba. And he's hard. We really need a hard bastard somewhere in the team.Muamba for all his work still gives the ball away too often. M Davis for all his quality on the ball can't tackle well enough to play centre mid in a pair.Whoever we sign we need 90 minute players. It's nice having impact subs but too many of our squad now are not capable of doing a job for 90 mins.SWP would be another in that category, Vela possibly also.

My two main memories of Faye are that he can head the ball further than most players can kick it, and that he seemed quite "handy" in the penalty box...

Mine is of him having players like Shearer in his pocket and the solid manner with which he tackled. Great in the air too. He's a few years older obviously but I think he'd compliment Cahills pace and culture quite nicely and he has pips which is more than I'd say for Gladys Knight. :D

It's the 18th of January and nothing's happened yet. Not even any loanees. If we are doing some business it's good it's under the radar but time is ticking on. Cause for concern yet?

Was thinking about the Elmo situation. No-ones been linked with him in January. Does this mean that everyone's waiting til he goes for free in the summer?

Leicesters goals against is pretty poor. He's a better footballer than he is a defender. Infact i can't remember him ever being part of an effective defense. In England we grew up on defenders who can't pass a ball and were constantly impressed by the technique of continental defenders. Now we seem overly impressed by any defender who can play football even if they aren't particularly good at the job they're there to do first and foremost

A) yes but it is always so
B) yes but it is always so. Had Elmos form remained at the early season level we'd be getting 3 million from Liverpool. I fear he will have an average last half season with us then head back to Europe on a free.

I think we are all concerned deep down. We have the smallest squad in the league and are clearly struggling against that very fact and we're over half way through the transfer window.

All we can do though is trust Coyle and the board to bring in the reinforcements we clearly desperately need!

I'd be concerned if it wasn't for the fact that we've been here before and the club have always sorted out what needs sorting.

Gartside knows what he's doing in the market and he knows the financial situation we're in.

Coyle will be determined to be a success but has made it clear he won't just throw money round willy nilly.

I think we're in a decent position. I'm less worried than I was towards the end of Allardyce's reign when it became all about him moaning about being unable to bring players in and our board seemingly dig their heels in further.

I don't think the club can win. When Megson went round buying up players people said we overpaid and spent too much. Now we have a canny Scot in charge who wants to save every penny possible people are complaining we're too slow.

We stayed up with Rasiak. There isn't much happening in the current market, Bent aside. I'm sure one or two will come in, probably not the names everyone would like but I think a lot of clubs are flying a lot of kites without actually landing much.

Various Rags wrote:Owen Coyle has distanced Bolton from an audacious loan move for unsettled City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The England international appears surplus to Roberto Mancini’s requirements at Eastlands.

And while the 29-year-old is the type of exciting player Coyle would love to bring to the Reebok, Wright-Phillips is out of the club’s pay league.

Indeed, Wanderers are keen to reduce their layout on salaries not to substantially increase it. It’s claimed Wright-Phillips, who is also interesting Fulham and Newcastle, has spoken of his admiration of Bolton’s style of play since Coyle took charge.

And he’s close friends with Trotters defender Zat Knight.

However, Coyle says he won’t be adding the Blues player to his squad during the January window.

“We can sit here and a million names can be banded about,” he agrees.

“But the bottom line is that there is nothing positive or concrete to report on players. It’s pure speculation.”

Indeed, club staff have compiled a list of players linked with Wanderers in the past month. And the total is now approaching 30!

Arsenal are reportedly only prepared to offer £8m for Gary Cahill, which falls well short of Wanderers’ valuation. The England international has been talked of by Coyle as a £20m man.

And it’s thought there’s a £17m clause in his contract that would allow the former Villa defender to leave.

However, Cahill has repeatedly stressed he’s in no hurry to end his Bolton career.

Middlesbrough centre-half David Wheater remains a target for Stoke, Wolves and Everton after Bolton cooled interest last weekend.

Meanwhile, Bolton midfielder Chung-yong Lee is unlikely to return from Asian Cup duty in Qatar before the game against champions Chelsea.

Unbeaten South Korea only need a draw against bottom-of-the-table India to qualify for Saturday’s quarter-finals.

As usual none of the quotes from Coyle really back up the thrust of the story. The short wank phillips thing sounds more like an agent suggesting we should be interested because SWP doesn't fancy living in London again

Indeed not, IMLC - Coyle's just saying "We could talk about a million players". He doesn't say "I'm not interested in SWP". Quite right too.

The only way SWP is coming to Bolton is if he decides to take a massive pay cut or if Citeh massive pay three quarters of his wage. He'll end up at Blackburn

Unless Blackburn buy him outright, which seems unlikely then he definitely won't this season.

I just can't see SWP busting a gut down the flank in a Bolton shirt. You'd think he would stay where he was and get richer, or go to a more fashionable/bigger club. Those kind of players normally go to somewhere like Newcastle, Villa, Spurs or Liverpool. Not saying he'll go to one of those now, but I'd be very surprised if he came here.
