Re: The Official Xbox 360 Thread
I remember a few years back when Sony proclaimed that by the end of the decade the PS3 would be the dominant console in sales terms.Choppers wrote:It can also be viewed on a PS3, with far less restrictions.
Xbox 360 fanboys are going to have to eat some crow this year, mark my words.
I always find it a real shame when people lean toward one console over the other, they are both amazing and have equal merits. When it comes to exclusives, they are both worth owning.
Worked out well that.
Given the market share Sony had with the PS2, you can only deduce that in sales terms the PS3 has been a flop whereas in relative terms the Xbox has been a huge success.
I don't think even Microsoft expected to be ahead of the PS3 at this stage.
I don't think its a case of leaning towards either. Most folk can only afford one or like me only have time/space/patience from other half for one. No doubting the PS3 is good, but if I'd never owned either up to now and had a weekend to play test both, I'd still choose the 360 for a whole host of reasons. Doesn't mean its the better console, but possibly means its better priced/adapted for the current market!

I do like it when a PC based franchise ports to kiddies gaming machines - like CoD...

That kind of exclusivity is just bad for the industry, imho.

It's not "competition" when it's "Whoever throws the most money at a developer/publisher gets timed exclusive DLC" btw.
Re: The Official Xbox 360 Thread
No chance. At first Sony were making a loss, but now they are making profit on every console. MS have had to have how many hardware revisions?BWFC_Insane wrote:Given the market share Sony had with the PS2, you can only deduce that in sales terms the PS3 has been a flop whereas in relative terms the Xbox has been a huge success.
They kinda did, thats why they released their console so much earlier.I don't think even Microsoft expected to be ahead of the PS3 at this stage.
I'd love to hear these reasons? Nowadays there are so few reasons to pick one over the other. If you are an online gamer, you pick the 360 though, no question.I don't think its a case of leaning towards either. Oh and most "hardcore" (sorry, I hate that term) gamers will own both. I can't stand fanboys, there is no reason to show brand loyalty here, they are both ace. If you are serious about "gaming" then you need both. If you don't have both you are missing out on some *incredible* exclusives.

Nooooooooooo - you stick with your PC and play EQ, EQ2, WOW, CoD, MoH etc. etc.Choppers wrote:I'd love to hear these reasons? Nowadays there are so few reasons to pick one over the other. If you are an online gamer, you pick the 360 though, no question.

Did you purposefully miss out StarCraft II?

Not really into sci-fi themes.Choppers wrote:Did you purposefully miss out StarCraft II?

So not purposefully - just don't know much about it.
XBOX is good for limited online shooters - if you want to play on MS servers through Live. I might give it all some more creedence when it successfully manages an MMORPG.

But you see you say "stick with your PC" when what you actually mean is "constantly upgrade and replace your PC"

And also I have zero interest in MMORPG. I'd rather chew my own knackers off!

My PC is the same one I had 15 years ago.BWFC_Insane wrote:I was a PC gamer in the olden days! Of course I replaced all the innards bit by bit, and the case got replaced a while back, oh and new mice and keyboards...

My PC doesn't do about a tenner a week in controller batteries.
I like the 360, I like the PS3 and liked the PS2's and 1, I don't mind the Wii (for the market it's targetted at). But the bottom line is, whilst CoD is decent single player, it's probably the on-line that makes it better for many people. The point I was making was rather just because you can play CoD online, doesn't make the 360 the B-all. I've been playing CoD online for about 100 years on the PC (and actually prefer the control on the PC)
I was a PC gamer in the olden days - when they were on the BBC Micro.

As for MMORPG's, I'll leave you to chew your knackers off - it's probably a considered response from anyone with the limited ability to play FPS's online.

Loved the first one, but my only criticism was that the ending was too easy.
Still, great, great game and hopefully there'll be a 'driving' level too

When you're on your deathbeds, I'm sure you're all going to think back and reflect - "I wish I'd had more debates about computer gaming platforms".

BTW, re COD - if you report a player (cheating/boosting/offensive/etc) wtf happens to them? I regularly report people who have [MUFC] clans tags just for the frig of it, but also you get nobs with swastikas n'that too. What is this Reporting all about, would they get banned?

Just personal taste tis all W4E! I'd only ever been a PC gamer (owned a PS2 but rarely played it) until the 360 came and I guess it fell at a time when I was spending my weeks somewhere and my weekends elsewhere and so rather than buy a second PC bought a 360 and then just fell out of the PC stuff. really.Worthy4England wrote:My PC is the same one I had 15 years ago.BWFC_Insane wrote:I was a PC gamer in the olden days! I was a PC gamer in the olden days - when they were on the BBC Micro.- but online, I started with a MUD called Discworld, back in about 1993. "It's the future" I said, but strangely enough text based MUDs got overtaken somewhat by events.

I guess I'm only a "play for 4-5 hours a week" instant FPS kind of gamer rather than someone looking for longer more in depth play. Only out of circumstances though! Otherwise I might get drawn into the MMORPG world!

Re: The Official Xbox 360 Thread
Yeah I did that the other day because somebody was being racist. You just get a 'Message Sent' notification.
Maybe it's when a users gets a certain amount of complaints?

Re: The Official Xbox 360 Thread
My main gripe with the FPS stuff, is it hasn't really moved on in terms of gameplay very much (for me anyhow), although the graphics have shifted apace with the technology.BWFC_Insane wrote:Just personal taste tis all W4E! Even in modes where ostensibly there's teams (so the potential for tactics), it's "run around like a meat head and shoot everything", which I'm not knocking for it's theraputic effects, having done just that - like you - since Wolfenstein (the original), but in terms of offering something different - not changed for years (and yes I know you can "steal" cash etc. in Blops).
Now a 54 person raid in EQ - although graphically poo - requires full team co-ordination and mechanics to get a win...
