it doesn't look to me like Coyle has him in mind as a long-term benchee....
Owen Columba Coyle wrote:“I don’t think we lack leadership but it's something we can get better at,” he said. “They are the demands I place on the team, that we get better together.

“We have some tremendous leaders, and the more we have, the better. I remember from my own time playing as a striker that I used to look back at the centre halves because they are the ones you look at to be the real leaders. They are there to organise and take charge of the team, and really push them on.

“David has those qualities and he comes into a group, because of the age they are, that can get better with that in mind.”

It's interesting the leadership comment. Think it's been begrudgingly accepted that Nolan offered far more in terms of that side of the game than we currently have in the team, and a big gap has been left.

In Knight and Cahill's early games together there was evidence that there were issues with taking responsibility and we don't really have anyone in the front 6 with any real authority in terms of kicking someone up the backside. Muamba or Holden don't really strike you as talkers do they?

So yeah, interesting if Coyle thinks that's an attribute that needs to be bought in

Wheater is delighted to be teaming up with Kevin Davies rather than facing Bolton's England striker, who he had many a battle with when Middlesbrough were in the top flight.

He said: "I am just happy I won't be facing Kevin Davies any more because I've had a few elbows from him over the years."

There is mutual respect with Davies posting on Twitter site: "Pleased to have Mr Wheater on board. Can't wait for Monday night."
KD calls him "Mr Wheater"??

He's completely and utterly ugly as well, which is high on my list of important qualities in a defender.

Easy now. He's a good looking lad for the north east.

Heard from a friend (who spoke to the man himself) this weekend just gone that Mr Wheater is earning £46,000 per week.

I have no proof whatsoever, but I'm happy to say....

He isn't.

Not unless by 'a week' you mean 'the week in which he scores a hat-trick against Fulham to clinch the league title, and then 7 against Barca as we lift the European Cup'. He'd probably get £46k that week.

th'email

yeah i was horrified when i heard it last night. I sit next to a well to do family who have some sons who ive seen out and about with wheater. The oldest was talking to me at half time about Wheater and his Ferrari and a incident about 400m from my home where he pranged the car. Anyway the conversation went from that to his wedding to his wages.

It could be including his signing fee which is rumoured to be around £900k which would be around £6k a week over his contract length that would put his wage at around £30-35k a week with appearance fee and goal bonus.
