It was an emotional night & post match our emotions are still high. We are a team low on confidence & after a good start yesterday, yes it was good start. We kept Chelski pegged back and they had'nt even been in our final 3rd until we gave the ball away and Drogba did the rest. Yes were we up against pretty much Chelski's first choice team , lampard aside, we still turned in our worst performance of the season with no player covering themselves in mediocre let alone glory.

Confidence, tiredness, quality of the squad and a thin squad all come into the equation, its up to Owen to change it and in Owen I trust.
Could be worse people, we could have the points Wolves, Wigan and The Spam have and we could have Megson in charge, then I would be worried.
If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England

See this drifted off topic

He was at (partial) fault for 3 goals last night

HE did save others

But I'm firmly of the belief from what I have seen that Al Habsi has been the better keeper this season (but won't come back for money reasons!)

I'm not on my own with that.

Timely enough I read this at lunch: http://www.football365.com/story/0,1703 ... 64,00.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've cut out the blurb on the restbut you get the picture
10 - Jussi Jaaskelainen
It might look a touch daft to include a keeper who, a mere 12 hours before this column is being (hastily re-) written, waved four goals in against a team struggling for form. Especially when Jaaskelainen should probably have done better with three of them. However, one bad evening does not undo a decade of excellent work by a keeper who has long been a favourite in F365 Towers. There is also plenty to be said for a man who has seemingly shown a fair degree of loyalty to Bolton, despite the offers of slightly shinier prospects that have no doubt come in over the years.
9 - Mark Schwarzer
8 - Craig Gordon
7 - Ali Al-Habsi
The spanking handed out to Wigan by Arsenal at the weekend was Al-Habsi's season in microcosm. Sure, he let in three goals and Wigan lost, but it could've been so much worse. Al-Habsi, who started the summer as second-choice at Bolton, stepped in for the third game of the season after Chris Kirkland had shipped ten goals in the opening two games. At the time it looked like something of a punt by Roberto Martinez, but he clearly knew better. Al-Habsi has conceded 25 goals in his 19 appearances, which is perfectly respectable for a struggling club, especially considering the rotating cast of clownish centre-backs that have nominally been providing him with protection.

6 - Petr Cech
5 - Paul Robinson
4 - Edwin van der Sar
3 - Ben Foster
2 - Joe Hart
1 - Pepe Reina

A number of times I've felt Jussi has performed...well, the word I'd use is "dodgy"...but I don't think it's time for the scrap heap yet.

I questioned Al Habsi going on loan at the time and I still do. I think he should come back after his loan as sooner than later he'll be our No1 with Bogdan as backup.

First part of that contestable, second absurd if we retain all three keepers...

If we had all three now Jussi still my no 1...

Me too not that comfortable with Jussi so far this season and with some wigan games I caught on telly, they just gave me an impression that habsi is playing as well if not better then jussi. Given the age factor, cost (I am guessing Jussi is paid more than Habsi), I would stay with Habsi in the long run. If wigan goin to give us a good deal for habsi then we should take it. definitely shouldn't loose him for free.

Do you guys think that without Habsi at the training ground, it gets Jussi to be a bit complacent ? All respect to Bogdan, I think Habsi will give a stiffer competition to Jussi's selection.

Forgetting Jussi's past heroics and Bogdan's inexperience and looking purely at ability as it is now I don't think there's much to choose between them. What worries me about Jussi is his attitude. He looks totally depressed (which may be justified given the performance of the four in front of him) but that does nothing for the confidence of the team. He gives off a ""been here before, done it, got the T-shirt, I'm bored" feeling. I think Bogdan's enthusiasm would be a major boost.

Just about sums it up correctly IMHO. You can stick around too long.

When were you off to Wanderers Ways?

I half agree, but Jussi's always looked bored. It wouldn't be the end of the world if we had to put Al Habsi in. I've not seen enough of Bogdan but he seems to be pretty capable.

That said, we've been putting in poor team performances for two months. How people can single one or two individuals that are contributing more to that malaise than others is beyond me.

Seems to me from being on here that it's all Jussi's fault. And Cahill's, he's shit too. As is Knight. And Steinsson. And Robinson, but Alonso's never a defender and Samuel can f*ck off. Moving into midfield, Muamba's limited, but not as limited as Cohen, and Mark Davies can't play in the middle 'cos he couldn't tackle a fish supper. Petrov can't be arsed, but don't get me started on Taylor. Up front, Elmo clearly wants to leave and Kevin Davies is a one-dimensional donkey years past his best.

Domed.

I wasn't picking on Jussi particularly - I could spend ages being critical of several / many of the rest of the team but would probably fall asleep before it was finished

You forgot the Manager's culpability in all this. After all he sets the tactics.

But I think the point's well made.

In our side over the course of a season, you could probably make a point for dropping anyone, when the reality is that we're at best a mid-table team with a budget that is unsustainable were it not for Eddie Davies. We are able to afford players who don't necessarily play above themselves week in and week out - it's probably why Barca aren't offering £50m for each of them, but when it comes down to it, they manage to keep us in the Prem and have done for 10 years now - which in itself is a major achievement.

But there always has to be someone to blame.

To be fair Worthy that sounds remarkably similar to one of the arguments I'd have trotted out in defence of Megson whilst he was here!

Well yes - sort of - the personnel on the pitch aren't that much different at the minute, so it's not unreasonable that in some part the argument still holds good.

When we've given Coyle £40m to spend, we could come back and take another look...

Jussi doesn't instill confidence at the back, if he came and caught a couple of crosses or corners instead of limply flapping at them it might go a long way. the bit that really gets to me is, when he falls backwards into the goals and the shot goes sailing over him into the back of the net. F.F.S. stand up man and let the ball hit you you never know it might just keep it out.
the problem with Jusssi is his place is guaranteed no matter how badly he plays. Jussi's had his time he's been a good servant to the club, but he's no longer the keeper he used to be. the occasional flash of brilliance isn't enough not when he gets basics wrong, we would be mad to let ALI go.
