Re: Bolton v Wolves
Phew! What a relief.. The journey home felt very nice indeed!
On balance we deserved that, although I would agree that it was fairly even in terms of possession etc.
First half Wolves were woeful for 35 minutes. I actually lost count of the amount of times we got behind them. They set up defensively, but we even worse at the back than we are! Even Knight would walk into that backline! The two full backs are shite.. Proper shite! But they have decent wingers who we managed to keep quiet for 65-70 mins of that match. Wolves only decent spells were about 5-10 first half minutes and then a good 10-15 minutes midway / later in the second half.
I thought Ricketts was sound defensively alongside Cahill, who hardly put a foot wrong and got some harsh decisions against him*. Lee was good, we've missed him! Davies was okay, nowt special, but infinitely better than Muamba has been recently (although a better team than Wolves would have waltzed through our midfield tonight) and Holden was busy as ever, but with little actual product.
The frontmen need a rest, kick up the backside.. Anything! But they shouldn't start the next game. Davies is being marked out and actually bullied out of everything at the moment and Elmander has lost that hunger he showed earlier in the season.
*Cahill was consistently being held by Doyle, but the ref was pulling him up constantly. Doyle was getting away with what Davies wasn't all night. But he's some player... Infuriating, but quality! Real handful

CYL looked great, considering he's not had a day off in 3 years.

There's plenty of this I agree with - SKD needing to be rested, Holden and Mavies not working together.BWFC_Insane wrote:Great to win and get three points.
But lets not gloss over (when we lose and play well its important to do the reverse) we were utter garbage.
Kevin Davies need taking out of that side pronto. Absolutely fecking appalling. Appalling.
Elmander not much better but at least at feet he can find a white shirt and can run at people.
Oh and can we have a right back? Anyone. Cos Ricketts is shite there.
When I heard Coyle saying we'd played really well I did wonder if he needed a trip to specsavers.
Finally Holden and Davies do not work together either!
I think an early goal may well have changed the whole aspect of the game TBH. I thought we did ok everywhere except upfront, in the middle and as you say Mavies/Holden...

Bob on for most of this. Their RB was awful. There were times when I thought the Ref would have missed two world wars and genocide occurring on the pitch.boltonboris wrote:Phew! What a relief.. The journey home felt very nice indeed!

Just got back from the game, it was pretty awful to be honest, but I am over the moon with the result!
Kevin Davies was diabolical tonight he deserved to be subbed off, we hoofed it aimlessly up towards him too much tonight and he won nothing! Elmo wasn't much better but he charges players down much better and can play a simple pass.
Great finish by Sturridge really really pleased, he showed the instincts of a striker.
Holden and Mavies didn't really work together I also actually think we missed Muamba tonight and before the game I would of chosen Mavies over Muamba.

Aye an early goal would have helped but we didn't really look like scoring apart from Elmanders shot that produced a full stretch save from their keeper. Taylor never looked like scoring his chance to me.Worthy4England wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:Great to win and get three points.

I just think that hoping that win has brought us out of our slump might be wishful thinking. I certainly hope it has but I'm not yet quite convinced!
Has to be said on tonights evidence Wolves are going to struggle to stay up!

Apart from the result, the only other positive I can take from the game was that Sturridge looked very quick and lively and made some intelligent runs. Other than that, we were shocking.
The biggest issue for me was the way Jussi continued to lump 95% of his "passes" to SKD, who didn't win anything all night. Either he's been given instruction to do this continually, irrespective of the situation, or he hasn't the intelligence to try something different. Whilst for the most part SKD was beaten to the ball, when he had the opportunity to do something with it, his poor touch let him down. He doesn't seem to be putting in the effort he used to either. Time for a rest methinks.
Also, even though I'm one of Muamba's biggest critics, I think we missed him. Our midfield were completely shapeless. At least Muamba holds his position and breaks things up. There was none of that tonight.
Don't even get me started on Elmander.
Owen's dilemna is who to drop for Sturridge. A nice and very much overdue problem to be faced with.
Having said all that, a win is a win.

Been a while since we've had 33 points in feb, though, isn't it?

We didn't look like scoring - possibly. We got enough balls into places that people should score from though. Just no fecker to make use of them.BWFC_Insane wrote:Aye an early goal would have helped but we didn't really look like scoring apart from Elmanders shot that produced a full stretch save from their keeper. Well it looked friggin alreet to me on motd! Appeared to have plenty of chances, Lee looked good too but that was just 5 mins of highlights. Such a refreshing relief tho to see some pace up front for once! Anelkaesque! Brilliant.

14 - Daniel Sturridge is the 14th player to score for Bolton in the Premier League this season, more than any other club. Spread.

Re: Bolton v Wolves
Great 3 points for us.
We weren't great but we certainly were not "uttter garbage". As has been said above we could have been a couple up at half time (more probably 2-1 up).
Not working at all up front at the moment though I actually thought KD was a bit better than recent especially when playing a bit deeper. Still not good enough though. Nice to see M Davies get a start but he really needs to be in a 5 man midfield - Tottenham maybe.
Good to see CYL back - he really tracked back well especially first half. Such a good attitude that others could learn from.
Sturridge's goal reminded me so much of Anelka's from an Arsenal throw in - great anticipation. He also looked really pumped up and got the crowd going. I like that sort of spirit.
Had some luck tonight but when I look back at Liverpool and Chelsea away we really could had a point each there so it evens out, hopefully.
Keep the faith ! ( especially you, Bish as reading through the thread it looks like you had a bit of a wobble tonight
)

Re: Bolton v Wolves
Agree with this, WW. In the first half we were so on top it was untrue. but it looked like we'd forgotten how to score. Second half less so, I agree, as Lee - the outstanding player of the first 45 - tired. We were better than Wolves, though, and deserved the points.Wandering Willy wrote:Great 3 points for us.

Now... SKD isn't earning his place in the team and Elmander only by a hair's breadth... And there may be competition now. good. let's see how brave Coyle is. Very, is my guess.
Holden is excellent, Mark Davies good, together less than impressive... Our midfield needs more physical presence than they offer - Muamba would be first name on the team sheet for me.
Rodrigo was awful tonight... he consistently promises much more than he delivers...
I think criticism of Ricketts is misplaced - he deserves his place and works like crazy... Paul Robinson is having his best period since joining the club... Centre two tonight did a good job...
But - most importantly - we have now broken a terrible barren spell, even if it was hardly sparkling. This was very important. build on it...
And, finally, we beat Wolverhampton by an injury time goal crafted brilliantly by the night's most inept piece of defending... if that doesn't make you laugh, nothing will...

Re: Bolton v Wolves
Man of the match was fat Pavluchenko. For us fook only knows. When we scored I'd forgotten how to celebrate. SKD was shite, only marginally better than Elmo who was utter gash. A proper poncey softarse. I think we deserved it, just, but the way we got it was perfect. Zubar and Elo-whatsit both strong contenders for the Nyron Nosworthy award, Zubar possibly pinching it today.
