40 Points
Where is it written in stone that 40 points guarantees safety??
IIRC we have been relegated before now with 40 points - the Everton season
And West Ham were relegated with 42 points - we had 44
I don't recall a season where the lowest placed team had only 2 points less than a point a game at this stage.
Towards the end of season, the lower teams often get their act together and get surprise results - that could happen again this year -starting yesterday at Molineux????
I would not be surprised if more than 40 points were needed this year too.
In which case we need 3 more wins at least.
At the start of the season i was looking for us to get 44-46 points, and at this moment i would still settle for that.

What goes around may still come around
Re: 40 Points
I'm not suggesting we take our foot of the gas or anything but maybe Wolves got a freak result yesterday, I can't see eithwer of the bottom three at the moment putting a run together where they take us at this moment in time, maybe famous last words I don't know?
Pfffft.

Re: 40 Points
You might be right about it being more that 40 this year. It certainly looks like it's going to be a lot more than what we have now.
Six home games left this season. You'd hope to get a win against West Ham, hopefully Everton, Sunderland and Villa too. If we win those 4 we'll be fine. Other than that Arsenal and City are tough.
We need to pick up some points away from the Reebok and not leave it to the last game of the season.
I think we'll be fine. There are definitely 3 worse teams than us with fewer points.

You honestly think we'll be fighting against the drop going into the last game of the season??? Strewth, Jesus wept, etc.Armchair Wanderer wrote:You might be right about it being more that 40 this year. It certainly looks like it's going to be a lot more than what we have now.

Re: 40 Points
I am more positive this season than the last 2.. don't think we will be dragged into the last day relegation dog-fight. We should be save with a couple of games to spare. But that is not the point.. we should be pushing for a european berth, or better than last year.
Re: 40 Points
Maybe more than 40 points will be needed this season, and we will be one of those teams that get more than 40 points.

Re: 40 Points
Remaining fixtures and my predictions:
Bolton v Everton - 1pt
Newcastle v Bolton - 1pt
Bolton v Aston Villa - 1pt
Man Utd v Bolton - 0pt
Birmingham v Bolton - 1pt
Bolton v West Ham - 3pts
Fulham v Bolton - 0pt
Bolton v Arsenal - 0pt
Blackburn v Bolton - 1pt
Bolton v Sunderland - 3pt
Blackpool v Bolton - 1pt
Bolton v Man City - 1pt
Giving us 46 points.....which I'd have thought will mean we will be safe, also I was prediciting slightly negatively,
I think we can win at Blackpool, Birmingham, draw at Fulham and also beat Villa if we re-discover some form. I think we will probably end up with around 50-55 points and finish 10th or 11th.

Re: 40 Points
Probably a fair summary, although the pessimist in me suggest writing off all away games from now until the end of the season, given how pap we are away from home these days.Latham8wfc wrote:Remaining fixtures and my predictions:

If we can't manage to get to 42 points in the next 13 games or whatever, then its a poor do...i'm sure we'll be fine, i just hope it doesnt get twitchy.

Re: 40 Points
Me too, but we had Clattenberg that day and he gave 27 penalties, all of which were missed, so he popped up at the back stick and nodded one in in injury time. Fecking Robinson not marking properly
