Elmander - "No obligation" to Bolton

Elmander admits there have been talks over an extension but nothing has been agreed yet and he feels the club could have done more.

The 29-year-old would appear to be prepared to consider other options if the matter remains unresolved.

"I don't feel any obligation towards Bolton," Elmander, who has enjoyed his best season since arriving in 2008, said in The Sun.

"They have had the chance to do something about a new deal.

"We've had dialogue but not right now."

I would have thought the fans have everything to do with the club? Hard-working is just a phrase i like to use because a lot of the players get paid a lot of money for doing feck all, and it still makes me wonder to this day why we carry on funding them (yes JLS) - so a statement like ths comes out, who do you think takes it most personally? Coyle, naa he knows the score, Gartside naa he's biding his time, classic contract negotiations, the agents, naa they know they'll be alright no matter what.

This seems very well timed. He just happens to come out with this a week after the transfer window closes when he knows we can't sell him etc.. He has been very sly before January not saying anything bad about the club etc.. Saying how he loves working under coyle etc.. Then changes his tune after the window. I think he thinks he can get a big move if he is on a free rather than if we had sold him because he would of had to go to whoever made a bid. You're right. Apart from his contractual obligations, he has no other obligation to Bolton. Elmander should have made this clear in his interview and I should have reiterated it point by point making sure that all the Is were dotted and the Ts crossed for the anally retentive, pedantic control freaks on the internet.

yes - you're right... apart from his obligations to Bolton, elmander has no obligations to Bolton.

I think actually he'd have only got a big move if he'd have moved under contract. I don't think your Liverpools or Tottenhams would sign a free striker from Bolton who Bolton themselves didnt fight tooth & nail to keep. Not ones who basically after 3 years in the league are proven to be average at best at that level. I think once he's free and go where he wants, i doubt it'll be to somewhere bigger than a top ten Premier League Team (which we still are ).

What's the problem? He's Swedish, he isn't a Bolton fan, he wants a contract, we've not offered him one.. If we do and they don't match his terms, he's under NO obligation to sign it.
