As for True Grit, I have watched it twice now, it is absolutely ace!

cant get that music out of my head either.

Saw this at Trafford Centre yesterday evening. Magnificent film. Not seen Kings Speech yet but if Jeff Bridges doesn't win the best actor Oscar off this performance I despair. And how can they consider putting Hailee Steinfeld up for 'best supporting'? She gave a performance way beyond her years.

As for the score, I thought it great too. Very much in the background and none-obtrusive, very reminiscent of something you can't quite put your finger on.

The last line of dialogue was a mystery for me; The now adult Mattie Ross is at a wild west show and holds a conversation with two men one of whom, named Mr James, remains seated. As she turns to leave she says 'You remain seated, trash.' Does she know him? Is the name James significant? Or is this just because he remained seated in the presence of a laydee?

Have to agree. Thought the books were a once-in-a-decade experience but the films a let down by comparison (aren't they always?) Enjoyed the first one, second not quite up there and haven't bothered with the third - yet.

The film completely stupefies the book, removes all the build up, tension, complexity of the case. if you hadnt read the book you would be thinking that Henrik was a right numpty for not spotting that girl in the crowd on the photo! Blomqvist turns up, spots it straight away, bosh. done.

havent seen the others, but i havent finished the 2nd book yet either.

I know where your coming from but believe me Colin Firth is fully deserved of his Oscar and everything else he gets, he is incredible in that. However Hailee Steinfeld absolutely blows Helena bumhead Carter out of the water for the best actress.she won at the baftas. I think they have put her in the ‘best supporting’ category so she is kinda guaranteed to win something, as Natalie Portman is nailed on for that one - but Steinfeld should definitely get the full honours imo. Bridges is good, but he’s pretty much playing Crazy Heart again but with an eye patch and gun instead of a guitar. I was more impressed with Matt Damon in this!

I had no idea who that bloke was at the end either? From what I can gather he’s a character from the Novel, Frank James, and the brother of famous outlaw Jesse James!?

Watched True Grit on Sunday. Superb film, and a lot funnier than I thought it would be. Bridges and Damon excellent as per, but the wee girl stole the show.

It's good but it's no Mesrine!

I've already made her watch both, which she thought she'd hate, and ended up loving. Vinnie is the don. Watched that Black Swan with her last weekend. I thought it was quite good, really creepy, Portman is ace, Vinny is typically good, Mila whatsit is SOOOOO fit. Really disturbing and atmospheric if a bit paper thin plot wise, ruined, or at least tainted, by an utterly wank last minute.

Got round to watching Bruno the other night - what absolute shite.

Can't agree that it's the worst film in the world though on the grounds that it did exactly what it set out to achieve, whereas Mike Basset, England Manager actually set out to be funny.

After watching the start of the Sparta/Liverpool game I'm off to watch Pale Rider at 9-0. ( Freeview 24) There were just two minutes and 5 seconds on the clock when this drivel came from the commetator: "It's all about posession and Liverpool have dominated the early posession". The ball had never been out of their half as they knocked it around the back four. Enough already.

Have to say that I've never seen a film that's followed the book as closely. The whole thing, including the characters, looks exactly as I'd imagined it to when doing the book.
