Re: Avoiding the Royal Wedding
See I don't mind the immediate monarchy, ie the Queen and her family (with a few notable exceptions of course). It's all the bloody hangers on; all the Chelsea Charlies and hooray Henry's and Henrietta's and their friends of friends and the dignitaries, and MP's and so on. I'd admire them a whole lot more if they just slipped off somewhere for a private wedding and not brought the country to a halt for something that 75% of us probably don't give a dam about. Good to know her Maj and the girl's parents will be paying for the whole thing out of their own pockets....they will be, won't they? I mean, there's a recession on and all that, and what good's a holiday to the unemployed and unemployable? They'll all be at home anyway:|

So why shouldn't his wedding be a national event?

It will be. My comments are unlikely to cause much concern in the palace drawing room.CAPSLOCK wrote:So why shouldn't his wedding be a national event?

My mates getting married on saturday.
I'll call ITV, see if they're interested.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I don't care either way - I did the booking of three days to get eleven so I'll be oblivious anyway.
Oh and William, you don't help yourself at times

Re: Avoiding the Royal Wedding
There's a certain irony in you telling us all twice in 47 minutes that you are off on a trip to Spain in a thread bemoaning the media constantly banging on about a Royal Wedding, Will.William the White wrote: It is Friday April 29, and that has been declared a national holiday, so that the entire nation can rejoice. No idea what time.
Anyone got a puke emoticon?
I shall be in Spain, debating between swordfish, golden bream and hake... A chilled white from Valdepenas...
Your forthcoming holiday may get a tad boring by 29 April.

What aircraft will you be boarding? What outfit will you travel in? The nation needs to know.

God's country! God's county!
God's town! God's team!!
How can we fail?
COME ON YOU WHITES!!

Re: Avoiding the Royal Wedding
Still remember being in Australia when Charles and Diana got engaged. Front page headlines every day it seemed from October till I left that May. Drove me absolute bonkers. Was such a relief to get home and find out it was at least a non event until a week before the wedding. My Mom even managed to get a beer mug with Diana and Charles on to give to me as a present. Think living in Thailand, and the fact I don't have TV hooked up at home I should be pretty safe this time around.

All sounds like a lot of effort. I'm just gonna go to the pub.
Re: Avoiding the Royal Wedding
seeme like a perfect day to get up and take dog for long walk by the sea somewhere and then lock the door, close the curtains and watch a whole DVD set of one of those series I have been meaning to catch up on - like Boardwalk Empire or summat...

End of day it'll happen. Some will watch, some wont, the TV and newspapers will have a two-day pirahna fest and then i'll all be over till the next one. The world spins on, Bolton Wanderers march on, and the sun also rises.
