Striker dilemma?
With Klasnic scoring in two consecutive games and sturridge's form un-playable, do we drop K.Davies/J.Elmander and play them together?

No.

No, but for me Mandy's position is looking a bit uncertain. Gonna have a lil shake of the head if he starts on a wing on Saturday

Re: Striker dilemma?
Twould be totally foolish. Although Sturrige is much stonger physically, they're both fox in the box men and need somebody to win the ball to feed them. They won't do that with each other and it'll be a roughhouse. KD or Elmo to start with Sturridge, Klasnic as impact sub for one of the three depending on how it's going. Mark Davis as midfield sub. Petrov will expect to start wide left but I think OC will favour Taylor. Jussi will probably be back in although that's a bit hard on Bogdan who's excellent. Full backs same as Fulham.belfast_wanderer wrote:With Klasnic scoring in two consecutive games and sturridge's form un-playable, do we drop K.Davies/J.Elmander and play them together?
Jussi/Bogdan.
Robinson, Cahill, Wheater, Alonso.
Lee, Holden,Muamba, Taylor.
Elmander/ KD, Sturridge.
With Sturridge back it might mean Blake not on the bench in favour of a defender.

I believe that Klasnic is the best striker we have but rarely gets the chance to show it, but with the last 2 games I think he deserves his chance in the league. If he started the same amount of games as Davies or Elmander he'd have far more goals IMO.

Re: Striker dilemma?
Respectfully, in a team like ours a striker has to be a bit more than able to shoot from twelve yards and in BW. Is he any better than Jared Borgetti was? You don't just get chances, sometimes you have to make them. Klasnic is very good in and around the box but somebdy has to fight for and try to win the long balls and get them in there. I'm not convinced he'd be hardy enough to play ninety minutes every game. For me he's better as an impact guy, although maybe given a bit longer than he's been getting. He's more goal-poacher than striker to me. Squad rotation and making full use of subs is becoming more and more important these days and it stops players getting fed up constant bench sitting. Right now it's had to say OC isn't getting it right. Just my opinion.belfast_wanderer wrote:I believe that Klasnic is the best striker we have but rarely gets the chance to show it, but with the last 2 games I think he deserves his chance in the league. Re: Striker dilemma?
Klasnic and Sturridge both seem fairly selfish to me (and I might add Petrov) so I wouldn't be pleased to start them together. I expect KD to start as usual.

Re: Striker dilemma?
Not sure Petrov is purely selfish Monty. He has pace and can get some real killer balls in at times and his willingness to shoot without walking it in is a refreshing change since the days Big Sam banned shooting from outside the box.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Klasnic and Sturridge both seem fairly selfish to me (and I might add Petrov) so I wouldn't be pleased to start them together. True he passes when going in the corner, but he takes a lot of long range shots when a pass might be better. However, I agree - not purely selfish.TANGODANCER wrote:Not sure Petrov is purely selfish Monty. One of em has to miss out and it'll be a kick in the teeth for whoever it is. Should also be a good incentive to perform for whoever is chosen! Elmo shouldn't get a look in, although for some reason he gets under nufc players skin!
Dilemma indeed!

He got some decent balls in yesterday - I can't help thinking that Sturridge would have thrived on them had he been playing instead of Klasnic.TANGODANCER wrote:Not sure Petrov is purely selfish Monty. Re: Striker dilemma?
I think he was better yesterday because he was less selfish than he has been previously, at times he just seems to get the ball and just go for goal, whether or not theres 5 players to pass to in front of him in better positions or however unlikely a position he is to score from himself. He is clearly a threat on the break and is probably why he has been most effective coming on late in games.Wandering Willy wrote:He got some decent balls in yesterday - I can't help thinking that Sturridge would have thrived on them had he been playing instead of Klasnic.TANGODANCER wrote:Not sure Petrov is purely selfish Monty. Re: Striker dilemma?
It's worth saying that he was woeful at Wigan aside from his goal. Yesterday he seemed to generally have a better game, he's starting to get his touch back ect.
Love him and his solo mission to fire us to FA Cup glory, but he'd be the one to miss out for me. I think it'll be Elmander on the left, with Lee coming in on the right, Sturridge and Davies up top.

Keep Klasnic hungry for the cup?
He was dynamite off the bench before he went off the boil for injury and whatever other reasons.....
It's an either/or with Sturridge for me, as a pair they wouldn't cut it. Davo/Elmo as the other forward. NEwcastle would kill for either of those players.....

Re: Striker dilemma?
Watched the Newcastle match at the Reebok on DVD again the other night and Elmander was of course on fire. I don't think he's on that form at the moment so would opt for Davies/Sturridge up front. And that doesn't mean plonk Elmander somewhere else. I'd be hoping for Lee on the right and Taylor/Petrov on the left. Klasnic as a sub for Sturridge if it's 0-0 after 70 mins, but would go for Elmander on for Sturridge if we're 1-0.

You can find them on ebay, although as they are unofficial they don't last long. I'm pretty sure the BWFC shop has each match for sale?
