BWSA Social Night - Memories of Nat Lofthouse

The Bolton Wanderers Supporters' Association would like to announce the details of their next social night on Tuesday 22 February starting at 7.30 in the Lion of Vienna Suite.

This evening will be dedicated to Nat Lofthouse and will be an opportunity for all supporters to come together and share memories of the great man. We will also be raising money on the night for Nat’s chosen charities.As well as many tributes to Nat we will also have our usual Celebrity Darts Challenge and some very special guests attending.

Entrance is free to all and you do not need to be a member for this special event. However, you will be able to sign up for the BWSA on the night if you wished.

An excellent meeting last night with the Lion of Vienna suite full. Hosted by Norman Prince the evening was a great tribute to a great man. We had the video that was shown in the game after Nat died followed by a showing of his "This is Your Life" programme from the 80s. There were a number of ex-players there including Tommy Banks, Ian Seddon, Wyn Davies, Syd Farrimond, Charlie Cooper, Eric Redrobe. Most of the players gave their recollections of Nat, Syd saying that as a trainer Nat was a hard man but as a manager he was hopeless - something Nat himself acknowledged, and that as a player Nat was not one to tangle with - "it was like running into a brick wall!"
Andrew Dean from the commercial dept spoke about Nat "behind the scenes " and there's no doubt that if Nat hadn't thrown himself in to all aspects of Lifeline then BWFC would not exist in its present form and possibly not exist at all
There was a raffle with prizes that ranged from 2 tickets for Peter Kay in Manchester - the tickets were donated by Peter Kay, to the autographed drinks bottle that Daniel Sturridge had on TV after the Everton game .
There were no present day players- or manager there - which I think was a good thing at an event like this as it may have detracted from the great man himself( if that's possible).

It was an evening that I think Nat would have enjoyed with great laughter and great stories, without doubt the best BWSA meeting I've been to - and I've been to an awful lot.

The new committee said that they would improve the Supporters Club and they've certainly done that. Well done lads.

PS. If the "elderly ladies" who were very vocally against the new people taking over BWSA haven't attended the last 2 meetings then you've missed a treat - get down to the next one I guarantee you'll enjoy it.

sounds like a great night all round and on the back of the last one, it sounds as though the new BWSA board are transforming the society from the drab and stuffy group it was previously. Which can only be good news because the club needs a strong official supporters club.

Well it probably doesn't NEED one, but anything that increases the fan-base and loyalty of the supporters has to be a good thing no?

Most other premier league clubs have thousands of members in their offical supporters club whereas ours had a couple of hundred at the last count I believe.

I wonder how much support the club gives to its supporters? If its attitude to me a few years ago is any indication then it's not much.

I've probably mentioned on here before, but I ran for a short while a forum for BWFC to collect together Australian (and any others who wished to join in) BWFC supporters. To do the right thing I e-mailed the club and requested permission to use the club badge as part of each page header. Yes, you guessed it, the request was denied. I was advised that only 'affiliated organisations' would be granted such a privilege. To the best of my recollection there was no indication as to how I could organise such a position of honour or what, if anything, was involved. I was that disgusted that I didn't bother following it through.

If that's the sort of treatment meted out to the BWSA then I'm not surprised that it's a bit short on members.
