Elmander and the contract shiz

Post by Lofthouse Lower » Fri Feb 25, 2011 9:20 am

He stays = meh

He goes = meh
OWEN Coyle has confirmed that Johan Elmander will discuss a new deal in the next fortnight.

As revealed in The Bolton News on February 10, the Sweden striker is due to resume talks with the club about renewing his contract, which expires in the summer.

Elmander turned down Wanderers’ first offer at the start of the season and was linked with several clubs in the January transfer window, including tomorrow’s opponents Newcastle.

But after no bids materialised, there is now fresh hope in the Whites camp that the 10-goal top scorer, who signed for £8.2million from Toulouse two-and-a-half years ago, will not leave for free.

“The way we have been left is that the chairman was going to speak with the representatives in the spring, which will be in the next couple of weeks, so that will take care of itself,” Coyle explained.

“Johan has been incredible for us since day one and continues to be. He’s got a big big part to play.

“I do hope he decides to stay because I enjoy working with him. But, as I have said before, if he feels there is something better for him and his family I wish good luck to him.”

Except for Davies' running

Coyle says what he has to say. Elmander conveniently forgets all: huge transfer fee, big wages and loyalty from the club during his bad patches- probably mainly due to a self-promoting agent already counting his transfer commision and using the fact he'll go for free as a lever to screw more money into the pot- the club know his worth to them financially and are probably behaving accordingly, the speculation goes on and the world goes on turning.

Stay or go I doubt he'll be any different player whatever or wherever. Bolton will go on with him ,or without him.

What bollocks, though you're not alone in spouting it

For example, when were the club loyal to him?

And to the 'meh' crowd, Davies is now all but finished and it doesn't matter if our top scorer goes

Caps how silly you are.

I mean we've got Kev Davies who everyone knows is brilliant every game, works really hard even when we have 3 games a week and he's got years left in him. And did I mention, he's got goals coming out of his arse.

Then we've got Sturridge, admittedly he's priced in excess of 10M and Chelsea have just said he's definitely returning there next season, but lets face it thats just a minor problem.

And of course Klasnic, who is always good for 90 minutes of good hard yakker!

No worries at all if Elmander goes at all, we've a good record of replacing our top scorers quickly and efficiently.

Well, yes

I would accept that Elmander has a market value and if we're not prepared to meet it, he might go

I wouldn't want us to be paying more than we can afford/think he's worth

I'd just prefer that the bloke who could well end the season as our highest scorer in the top league for nigh on 50 years was still with us in August

Where's the bit about it being alright if he goes? He's a decent player but he has his price to Bolton. If we meet it, he'll stay, if we don't he'll leave. End of. As for Davies being all but finished...and you accuse me of talking bollox..

Lets try again...

When were the club loyal?

And if you're in the 'meh' crowd, then you're saying 'it doesn't matter' if he goes

I didn't know if that was your position, hence my not addressing it to you....

re Davies..you need to watch the games

He's ineffective, he's slow, he's quite often a liability

His major asset, his physicality, has been removed from the game by the referees...unfortunately, the games moved on and he hasn't

This has been done to death, and really I could do without weekly updates saying contract talks are imminent. Granted it's not Coyle's fault if he's asked, but still.

I don't understand why people think trying to re-sign Elmander for free would be a bad deal.

1. They've paid him top wages throughout when he's done less than shone. You want to disagree, fine, it's an opinion.
2. I'm not.
3. Whilst not attending much I watch every league game one way or another, TV, stream etc, I also watch KD and we'll just have to agree to disagree. We'd be far poorer without him.

Not because we're some charity for mis-firing strikers, because we gave him a contract.

You actually believe this demonstrates loyalty?

It's meeting your side of a contract, y'know, a legal requirement

Toss all to do with loyalty

Yeah, I know what a contract it, but is there a clause in the legal requirements bit that covers less than wonderful displays at times, shots that wouldn't trouble your grandma and damage to seats in row z?

Sensibly, Elmander is a decent player, at times an outstanding one, but all this stalling smacks a bit of hinting he's the next Tevez. That, he ain't.

No, there isn't such a clause, so we haven't been loyal, just like we haven't been loyal to Sean Davis

Glad that been cleared up

I'd guess, we were 'loyal' to Joey O'Brien

Sorry

Wasn't meant to be a Vicar of Dibley bullying exercise

It's just inaccurate to say we were loyal

I'm pretty sure the previous manager would have dumped him at the end of his first season if it had been possible
