Where are you going tonight?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

Ref the Kray twins and Bolton:

The Empress Club in Mealhouse Lane (pic) was a top venue back in the 60's. It had gambling, a restaurant, music and dance and some top star attractions (saw The Platters there). The story around town then was that the Krays had heard about it and decided to come and look it over. Word got out about the visit and they were met at Trinity Street by the police and some local gang lads and put back on a/the? train and told to er, depart and not return. It was a big talking point around the club, then owned by Norman Clements who was said to have auditioned as James Bond.

I saw Cannon and Ball there, before they made it big of course.

Not sure about Spencer's, I know he had a place on Manchester Road maybe later. I'll ask my brother about Wood Street when I speak to him. He'll know, he's been thrown out of there many a time.

Poetry and prose reading at the octagon... Jim Burns, Lancastrian poet, with a good wit and political passion. Adam Marek, almost 40 years younger, short story writer, funny and bizarre...

Two glasses of pinot grigio - 90 minutes of new writing... So good... :D

At the BBC on Oxford Road tonight for a couple of recordings of Counterpoint with Paul Gambaccini.

Lots of free tickets for audiences on the BBC website ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/tickets/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

We've seen quite a few over the last few years at the Granada Studios where the BBC record Mastermind, for example, the Comedy Store for a pilot show, several times at Oxford road now, and we're just waiting to see if we'll get Question of Sport this time round at the new studios at Salford. Well worth doing!

The same Kray stories go round about the same thing, but in Salford.

Probably bollocks

My favourite Kray story is the one where the two of them end up becoming members of Spandau Ballet.
Businesswoman of the year.

The Octagon, shortly. Press night of The Price. A lesser-known but excellent Arthur Miller. David Thacker always brilliant with Miller, so really looking forward to it. :D

Outstanding production. The acting is wonderful. The production is powerful, as is the play - though i think it's clear that it isn't one of Miller's masterworks - not The Crucible or A View from the bridge or Death of a Salesman but still excellent - it has you shifting allegiance from minute to minute as the skeletons tumble out of the cupboard. Also his best stab at giving centre stage to Jewish humour. The theatre-goers on this thread will love it. Tonights audience greeted it pretty near rapturously.

Sounds good and looking forward to this one. Seen lots of Miller (mostly at the Library Theatre in town) but not this. We're there next Saturday evening and I'll let you know what we thought.

Knowing what you've said previously, I don't think you'll be disappointed...

Manchester Library Theatre was (maybe will be again) one of my fave theatres... The time i finally got a play on there was a total joy... :D

Readings at the Octagon tonight - young poet Jack Underwood with clever, teasing poems that make you think and fiction writer, Laura Hird, from Edinburgh, reading two stories from a current collect called 'Hurt'. Witty, cruel, heartfelt.

A great night.

Tonight? To the pub, to farewell one colleague and welcome a new one.
Tomorrow night? To Liverpool, to do a gig at Studio 2.
Saturday night? To Hebden Bridge, to relax after a photoshoot.
Sunday night? To Manchester, to go a gig at Odder Bar opposite the BBC.

Is that your one man crusade to prove the climate-sceptics wrong?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.
