Liverpool had a need, and Newcastle didn't need to sell.CrazyHorse wrote:Andy Carroll costs £35mil but Danny Sturridge is only valued at £8m? Aye, reet.
Hence an inflated price.
If Sturridge carries on banging em in at a goal a game he'll cost a lot more than 8M and won't be playing for us again next season.
Equally right now if someone said we could have Carroll or Sturridge permanently I'd probably just about pick Carroll. That could change though over time.
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Amr Zaki scored four in his first four Premier League games for Wigan.
As nuts as paying £35mil for Carroll based off his season in the Championship and half of one in the Premiership is, Carroll is still infinately more qualified to call himself a top striker than Sturridge is.

Sturridge has played more top flight games than Carroll in his career. Its not like these are his first four starts.

I'd be surprised if they had a full season of Premiership starts between them. I wouldn't be using the words "top striker" if I was either of them, not yet anyway.Tombwfc wrote:Amr Zaki scored four in his first four Premier League games for Wigan.

I am also not sure what the extent of Carroll's injury is but there is a chance Liverpool have got themselves a sicknote.

Sturridge has made 10 starts and a 41 sub appearances, 8 of which have lasted longer than 20 minutes. He's played a full 90 minutes three times in his entire top flight career.Lord Kangana wrote:Sturridge has played more top flight games than Carroll in his career. Carroll has made 24 starts and 17 sub appearances, 5 of which have lasted longer than 20 minutes. He's played a full 90 minutes twenty times in his entire top flight career. He's also got 50 Championship appearances under his belt.
So yes, he has played in more top flight games, but it doesn't amount to that much when you're playing 10 minutes a game. In terms of time on the pitch there is no comparison.

In other words, they have very similar records in top level football. Albeit, one of them hasn't had the benefit of Shola f*cking Ameobi as his only first team competiton.

Haha yep. Not in the same class as Coloccini and Williamson. For elbows anyway.

Similarly, Sturridge hasn't had Ameobi as his strike partnerLord Kangana wrote:In other words, they have very similar records in top level football. Albeit, one of them hasn't had the benefit of Shola f*cking Ameobi as his only first team competiton.

Fit and focussed - and there's doubts around the latter with both of 'em - I'd have Carroll over Sturridge in a heartbeat

Not at £27m more, methinks.CAPSLOCK wrote:Similarly, Sturridge hasn't had Ameobi as his strike partnerLord Kangana wrote:In other words, they have very similar records in top level football. Albeit, one of them hasn't had the benefit of Shola f*cking Ameobi as his only first team competiton.

Probably not, but.....
Sturridge has been great - he's come to score goals and he's doing it
Doesn't do a great deal else, though
The goals will (surely?) dry up
Then he needs to add something...something Carroll has shown he can give his team

Oh aye - if there was a mill or two in the price difference, don't think there's too much doubt which one you'd pick on what we've seen so far.CAPSLOCK wrote:Probably not, but.....

Yep - this is the key. Both are promising players with bags of potential. Different players in their styles, but neither are worth anything near 35m in my book atm.Worthy4England wrote:Oh aye - if there was a mill or two in the price difference, don't think there's too much doubt which one you'd pick on what we've seen so far.CAPSLOCK wrote:Probably not, but.....

I'd pick Sturridge I think - at least until I was sure Carroll can walk again.

Depends what your team needs. I still stand by my assertation that Carroll will turn into a poor buy for Liverpool. They've paid double what they should. His lifestyle will wreck him. That and him not being "all that" as the kids say.

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Agree totally with that and actually I think they paid treble his worth. The guy and his "style" will be sussed next season unlike Sturridge who will turn into a crafty so n so.Lord Kangana wrote:Depends what your team needs. Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
I think the big doubts with Carroll are over his "off the pitch lifestyle" NOT his ability.
Sturridge for me hasn't got an all round game, and hence there are doubts whether he'll develop one. So either he needs to prove that season after season he's good for 20 odd goals OR as Caps says develop something extra in his game. Nowt to say he won't as he has a lot of what he needs, pace, good control, tidy on the ball, but of course as yet probably hasn't had enough games to develop. A lot depends on attitude.
Carroll is a better player than people give him credit for, not worth the money paid of course, but he's a very difficult player to mark and paired with Suarez potentially that could be lethal for Liverpool!
