the scots have free eye-tests too - and I suspect this argument is easier to demonstrate for eye-tests (which often highlight other severe medical conditions)...

it is said that women often go and get their teeth done when pregant cos they get free dental care then...
i did - after many years of not going - and will do again before the twins are a year and my free prescription card thing runs out! Skinflint eh?

This census thing I've just received. I get fined if I don't do it? Are they taking the piss? It's too long, I haven't that sort of attention span.

So they are threatening an "unspecified" fine for non-completion.

Thats nice of them. Perhaps they'll just blow up your house, seeing as the folk contracted to carry out part of the census, is an arms dealer.

£1000 is the fine...

I spoke with the local census organiser last week - my church is holding open days with some of our people to help frightened old ladies fill in their forms...

he reckons it will cost havering council £5000 for every form NOT returned...

you can, of course, do it online...

And you can bet when there is the inevitable screw up with some of the data "going missing" or not being treated in accordance with Data Protection Act that the parties involved won't be fined appropriately.

Had a call from my bank. Someone is pretending to be me and using my credit card. I am, as most would be in this situation, not a happy bunny. The big question for me though, as I rarely use my card, is, where the F*** did they get the details?

About four years ago I got a letter from my bank. Somebody had written to them using my details and even forged my signature almost perfectly: The letter said I was moving to London and asked for all future transactions, statements etc to be transferred to an address provided.
Very fortunately the bank double checked with me and I had to attend a meeting with the fraud people there. I was never notified what happened but very glad the bank had procedures to combat this stuff in place. My question was the same as yours: How the hell did they get my details and signature? Never found out.

In England and Wales 390,127 people (almost 0.8%) stated their religion as Jedi on their 2001 Census forms, surpassing Sikhism, Judaism, and Buddhism, and making it the fourth largest reported religion in the countries

Shows we've still got a sense of humour in Britain (I hope).
