Unbeaten in 5 games so we drop two of our brightest young players (Blakeman and Vela) and lose. Unbelievable.

Re: Reserves v Chelsea tonight
Bolton Reserves 1 Chelsea Reserves 2 JOEY O’Brien began his latest comeback bid from his injury nightmare when he came through 66 minutes as the reserves’ five-match unbeaten run was ended by Chelsea.
The 25-yearold midfielder has not played for Wanderers since October 2008 after suffering a succession of career-threatening knee problems. He was told he would never play again after having a piece of his kneecap removed, but successfully came through pre-season only to suffer another setback in September.

Glad he came through the game unscathed but he probably won't be with us next season and it's a shame Blakeman/Vela got dropped to accomodate him.

Joey O is only 25??!!
It seems like he's been around forever.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I'll trust BWFC over you on thist_o_molloy wrote:Glad he came through the game unscathed but he probably won't be with us next season and it's a shame Blakeman/Vela got dropped to accomodate him.
The result of a jumpers for goalposts game is neither here nor there
A decision on JOBs future needs making soon..we may as well give him every chance to show he shouldn't be allowed to leave to embarrass us 12 months down the line
If he breaks down again, then let's have it happen sooner rather than later

Blakeman and Vela have years left to develop. The fitness and wellbeing of a senior squad member needs to take precedence.
"Young people, nowadays, imagine money is everything."
"Yes, and when they grow older they know it."

Re: Reserves v Chelsea tonight
there seems to be a general view - maybe not strongly expressed - but lurking about nonetheless that Joeyo is crap...
now - a loooooong injury might mean that he never recovers his potential - entirely possible - but my memory is that he had some pretty decent games for us and was developing quite nicely..
I'm happy that the club is taking the trouble (as CAPS says) to see how he might emerge given what we have invested in him...

Re: Reserves v Chelsea tonight
I hope he manages to get some sort of career, but doubt it will be with us.
He was 'alright' when he started, but no better. At the moment he'd be our 6th choice midfielder and considering his wages would be better off spent somewhere else.
Thanks and good luck

Re: Reserves v Chelsea tonight
Sorry bish, this isn't just about crapness, but he certainly isn't up to playing midfield in a 4-4-2 in the Premier League.
By all means keep him as a reserve fullback, but just like Sean Davies, their injury records suggest the money would be best spent elsewhere.
And even if you want to argue against crapness, no-one can positively say, with a straight face, that he was ever "good". Adequate maybe.

Re: Reserves v Chelsea tonight
The problem we have with O Brien is how much we have spent on getting him fit
Even if its to get him in a position where he can pass a medical at another club, so we can attempt to recoup some of the cash, then its a good thing.
FWIW I wouldn't mind having him in the squad...its that long since I've seen him, but defensive mid or right back, positions which need a bit of challenge to current holders of the shirt I reckon.

Trouble came when GM decided last year in his infinite wisdom to give O'Brien a new contract. Utterly pointless.

Its so he could play him on the wing.

Don't ask me what it might be, but I always thought there was something in it for usofficer_dibble wrote:Yeah seemed a bit barmy giving him another deal
The best game I remember him having was in Turkey...looked a footballer that night
As for his next move, Hillsborough seems favourite

But if JOB leaves, who will be hopeful(<)?
Re: Reserves v Chelsea tonight
they wanted a utility player.
i always thought they shouldve fecked gardner off after his many knee knacks about 4 (?) years ago.
but thats mental.. i suspect the club dont wanna look like shithouses callously saving money , even if it means the next saviour carnt take a place on the bench.
