Relegation Battle....

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Eyedrops actually.

I'm a plastic, I don't look at these teams with the terrace experience and rich history of div 2 grievances etched in pints and fists on bleak windswept afternoons in the Thatcher-Major era. That part of the BWFC experience is not, can never be my preserve.

From a distance Wolves have had the sort of season people here were wishing for back in the reign of HWSNBN - fighting, playing good stuff and kicking over the Sky Four - they've suffered for it with thrashings and negative media campaigns and it would be sad based on what they have done if they go down and (say,) the Chickenmen stayed up.

I did fill in the BBC "predictor" on Sunday. It is possible that we go down, four points adrift of the team in 19th...

Understood ... & not unreasonable. But wrong, believe me.

Wigan, Wolves and Blackburn.

Birmingham have games in hand. West Ham are on the up. West Brom got a decent manager, as do Villa and higher. Maybe when Blackpool get Charlie Adam back they'll be ok. The teams that sack Sam tend to go down!
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Tottenham v West Ham
Aston Villa v Wolves
Blackburn v Blackpool
Stoke City v Newcastle
West Brom v Arsenal
Wigan v Birmingham

Very big weekend coming up. Birmingham managed a draw with Everton in one of their make up games and remain firmly in the battle.

West ham draw Tottenham a few days after a big game for the spuds. A win would do them wonders, a loss would leave them in trouble.

1-1

Villa against the wolves. Wolves have better form. A win gives Villa space a loss would leave them a serious contender for relegation. This is one of the tougher games left on Wolves schedule so a win would go a long way to ensure their survival.

2-2

Blackburn against Blackpool. For Blackburn they have a managerial/ownership crisis going on. A win would help alleviate the pressure somewhat. A loss might mean the end for Kean. Blackpool need a win away from home. Adam is back and they need to get their confidence up.

1-2

Stoke is up against Newcastle. Stokes home form is o.k. but their away form abysmal. They need a victory.

1-1

West Brom vs Arsenal. West Brom much improved but Arsenal are fighting for a title and will be pissed about their exit from Champions. West Brom will be dumped in the mire this week.

1-3

Wigan vs Birmingham. Huge game for both sides. If Wigan lose they are most likely to drop. If Birmingham lose after their loss to Bolton, they will be very disheartened and a serious contender for the drop game in hand or not.

2-1

I know the games aren't for another week but I'm bored and I think the relegation battle will be more interesting than the title race even if we upset Man U next week.

Is Wigan-Birmingham midweek?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Yes. Sorry the big weekend is coming up in 10 more days. As I stated, I'm a bit bored and so jumped ahead a week.

Who was the prem team that was at the top of the table at Christmas and was relegated?

I think its more than possible that a team will go down on 40 points this year. So by that measure we're not safe. But if we get sucked anywhere near it now we want shooting.

How many points to be safe? I reckon 43'll be reet!

Think the biggest fall from grace in the Prem, from Christmas, was Norwich in 7th in 1994/5. There were 2 more teams in the Division then, too. They dropped 13 places and got just 13 points from their last 23 games...

Two out of the last three seasons we were hovering on the bottom rungs and everybody saying "We are not going down". Now, 7th in the table and 40 points in the bag we're talking about the possibility of it? Guess rose-tinted specs are out of fashion then, careful you don't walk into lamp-posts with all the black ones.

It'd need a computer programme .... or someone with an infeasible amount of time, but I suspect that, as so many teams down there have to play each other & so they can't all get points and we probably are, in fact, safe.

If I'm wrong ... we're domed.

I think 43 will make us safe. The way it is going we could end up only 2 points off relegation and still top half of the table.
