Re: Jussi penalty saves
That was away.
I meant the home fixture the following year, when they were also awarded two penalties. I think.

Re: Jussi penalty saves
In 2006/2007 Blackburn were given 4 penalties against us as far as I can remember (I was fooking leathered at the away game). He saved the 2 away but let in the 2 at home.
Re: Jussi penalty saves
The way he sets up to hit it there is no way he isn't going to hit it into the ground. He didn't shin it at all. He didn't catch it well at all like, but still. It's hit slowly but he goes down far too early. CAPS is saying he goes down early and as such rarely concedes low down. Well that's smashing, but it's feck all use for shots that are high if he is going down that early. He could go and stand right next to his left hand post and say he rarely gets beaten to his left, but he'd still look a dick for all the saveable ones going to his right. Don't get me wrong I think he has taken some unreal stick this year, and Ali has achieved Andranik like status, but he should have saved that. He's supposedly a perfectionist, and I would be VERY surprised if he isn't annoyed at himself. I think the lack of characteristic running to the penalty spot and chucking his arms about in Sam Ricketts' general direction (it's presumably still his fault) shows Jussi knew that. He's a miserable bastard. Cracking keeper tho.BWFC_Insane wrote:Which is his style as Caps says, it works for him. Most times Albrightons shot would not have bounced over and in like that. But it did. Jussi has to play the percentages if he stays up for as long as possible its highly probable that low shots would squeeze in underneath him.Bruce Rioja wrote:Utter prickishness. Have another look - Jaaskalainen has dropped onto his knee before it's even reached the Villa player. I was more concerned by the way that he just dropped to his knees on both of their goals. Had he stood up he'd have saved the second one at head height, the scruffy c*nt.
I think I read somewhere that he's joint with David James for most penalty saves over the last 10 years or so.
We should have that Al Habsi back, really solid, no mistakes......ooooh.

Re: Jussi penalty saves
Jussi has hardly taken any stick this year. Most are in agreement that its a toss up between him and Ali.
If you rewind to 2008, I'll give you that.

he's taken quite a bit - not many games pass without Jussi being blamed by someone for the goal...
Re: Jussi penalty saves
Aye, seems to take stick for every single goal he concedes this season.

Theres not a single game passes without a single person blaming a single player.thebish wrote:Lord Kangana wrote:Jussi has hardly taken any stick this year. Most are in agreement that its a toss up between him and Ali.

No, I'm saying he 'starts' low rather than upright.Prufrock wrote:CAPS is saying he goes down early
On the one you're on about he anticipated the flight...he got it wrong, but that doesn't mean he should've saved it
From 8 (?) yards out, I'd say he has to be anticipating most times in order to make the save
9 times out of 10, the ball wouldn't have taken the path it did
The only way to save that one would have been to stand and wait til the bloke hit it...1 time (or less) in 10 it would've resulted in a save..the other 9, dicks would have used it as evidence he was finished as it flew past him

my impression has been that is has been frequent... but I doubt Jussi is losing any sleep over it..Lord Kangana wrote:Theres not a single game passes without a single person blaming a single player.thebish wrote:Lord Kangana wrote:Jussi has hardly taken any stick this year. Ahh I get one you mean. I think you're right generally, he does seem to set himself low, almost looks in fact like he is trying to 'make himself small'. He is on his knees before Allbrighton even made contact though, if he just 'set' himself low he could still have got there either way. He almost made it even from on his knees.

Re: Jussi penalty saves
Only recently though. Previously he's never come for crosses because he'd rather rely on his incredible reflexes to deal with the shot. That said, he's always been shite low down to his right. Now it seems as though he's getting down low on that side in advance far too readily.CAPSLOCK wrote: I'd say he has to be anticipating most times in order to make the save

As an aside, is Barber still on the scene?

Re: Jussi penalty saves
Criticism of incumbent players tends to peak when there's a viable alternative. For what it's worth I'm not in the Blame Jussi crowd, on this goal or many others, but the existence/potential/ability of AAH and to some extent Bogdan means that some folk will agitate for change, as is their right. It's a better situation to be in than Oh God We Need To Sign Someone Cos We All Agree This Guy's Hopeless.
Re: Jussi penalty saves
You can't fault the guy for penalty saves, one on ones and anything below knee height but...................
I can remember 3 coaching tips from being a schoolkid 1. Never pass the ball across your own 18 yard box 2. Shoot on sight and 3. If the ball is in the air in the 6 yard box, it's the goalies.
Clearly Finnish school coaches ignore number 3, which presumably is why Jussi remains rooted to his line and doesn't command his box.

Aye, but that's probably befor Kev Nolan invented the "stand on the goalie's boot-laces" tactic.Bijou Bob wrote:You can't fault the guy for penalty saves, one on ones and anything below knee height but...................

Re: Jussi penalty saves
Granted TD. I suppose the thing is, it doesn't really matter how many penalties Jussi saves, it'll never overshadow The penalty save of Brannigan's.

Think he is no longer able to do keepers warm up due to injury but is still coaching here.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Jussi penalty saves
A tactic which, I noted along with 95,000 locals on Tuesday night, the holy Arsenal's impeccable Cesc Fabregas was using on Barcelona's Victor Valdes. (Valdes is the goalkeeper, although it was difficult to tell on the night as he may as well have been a steward.)TANGODANCER wrote:Aye, but that's probably befor Kev Nolan invented the "stand on the goalie's boot-laces" tactic.
