Gutted - but You Won It Well

Post by tonyblue » Sat Mar 12, 2011 5:37 pm

Dear Wanderers,

Just wanted to congratulate you from a Blues fan on your win. Im absolutely gutted you won what was imo a great game of football for both teams. Really hope you go on to win it now so at least we can say we lost to the victors and also sick of seeing the top 4 win all there is in the game.

Ive always liked Davies he's a good player.

So go on Wanderers winning it would be the best possible way to remember Lofthouse. I also want to see Wenger if he gets there blarrting his eyes out watching his spoilt brats get beat again.

Good luck

Tony

Cheers for those kind words Tony!

You've already got one cup, so you can't be too greedy ;)

One positive for you is that you can concentrate on staying in the league, which I hope you do!

Cheers Tony. Hope you finish the season well and congrats on the Carling Cup win. I'll always remember Flipperman.

Tony despite the impact of your final appearance on our UEFA chances, I still found myself rooting for your boys at Wembley. Always good to see the big boys get stung by the so-called smaller clubs. Hope the sentiments will be returned in April

Cheers Tony, its a pity that not all of the Brum fans are as good a loser as you....I thought we'd left football violence behind in the 80s....they need to grow up

To balance out the bad experiences some had, we chatted with a couple of Brum fans and saw nary any bother. And where we'd parked meant when we got to the end of the police cordon we turned back on ourselves and through the Blues crowd and past a couple of their boozers. Not a crossed word or hint of bother.

I didn't see any bother. Did you? And, if so, are you sure it wasn't our lot to blame?

Granted, B'ham in the past were a feckin grim lot. But now?

Didn't see any bother either. Only a line of 7 Bolton fans antagonising blues fans near McDonalds after the game. *sigh*

I did see a little trouble from "Brum fans" (how do we know they even went to the game?) afterwards and they smashed a few windows. Not exactly much really and the police seemed to have things more or less under control. Most Brum fans were great afterwards, giving us congrats for the win!

I saw a bit before the game, lads swapping numbers for a "meet" later on but thankfully I was heading off the other way afterwards

I saw 3 sporadic fights on the A45 heading away from the game. There were Bolton fans making their way presumably back to their cars/mini buses and I saw them set upon by lads, admittedly I've assumed they were Birmingham fans but I think I'm pretty close to the mark. I'm just sharing what I saw which wasn't pretty

That's really depressing - was just asking if you'd seen personally - looks like you saw the shitty end of the stick. We drank a couple in a Birmingham pub before the game with no bother at all...

I just really, really hope the football violence stuff doesn't re-emerge....

Too right William. I've been to lots and lots of Bolton games home and away in recent years and today was the first time I've felt a threatening atmosphere leaving a game other than Athletico Madrid and that was scary at a completely different level.

All I can say is Im really sorry if anyone had any bother. I certainly hope no one is hurt too bad. Im affraid Blues do have their share of neanderthals and if a Bolton fan was attacked by one of our lads there is no excuse for it even more so if it was one sided. For me having banter with opposition fans is all part of the football experience and away supporters should be able to wear their colours freely. We need to agree places where true supporters can meet up and go to the game together, meet up afterwards and All tell the hooligan element where to get off.

I would say sometimes clubs have a reputation from the past that might not truly reflect the presence. The coppers warned us we'd have trouble if we walked the way back to our car the way we went. We didn't.

In fact, my mate remarked to me (after we'd been chatting with Blues fans on the way in, and stewards and what have you) that it was one of the friendliest away days we've had in a while.

I thought it was a cracking game, a proper cup-tie, a real credit to The FA Cup. It could easily have been 4 or 5 each.

I do like the idea of having a place where rival fans can meet up. Maybe we should all speak to Fulham FC, cos I know several on here (me included) who love it as an away day. Theres never (that I know of) any trouble, all the fans mix etc.

Anyway, good luck with the rest of your season. We've been through our fair share of relegation battles, they jangle the nerves something rotten.

Due to a lack of funds at the time I was only able to attend Madrid at home and Munich away during the europa cup run..what exactly was the atmosphere at madrid like mate?? One of the reasons I ask, except for general curiosity, is i'm off to the Bernebau this season to watch Real/Barca and granted i'll be going as a home fan to one of the most publically televised matches of all time and at a complete different stadium but still if theres anything I shuld know about spanish crowds in general it would help

Spanish fans don't tend to travel in great numbers (so the story goes). So their police aren't used to handling big crowds of away supporters.

I wouldn't worry, I'd be surprised if your experience is the same as ours.
