I think the great thing about Robbo is he never actually does go missing. Of course there are times his lack of pace lets him down and times he gets caught up the pitch when we're pressing.

BUT he always, always gives 100%, always puts his body on the line and ok being realistic he's not the best left back in the world but for me he's everything I want in a defender at BWFC!
 Agreed wholeheartedly. He might not be the best, or the most cultured, but he's perfect for us. If he was any better, then somebody else would be having him.
You boys need to avoid alcohol. He's not a patch on Gardner at his peak. Nor is he the "General" around which we all follow. He's ok. No more, no less.
Has he slept with your missus or sommat?

I think his limitations are apparent but I suppose it depends what sort of defender you're after. If we're scrapping for our lives I'd have Robbo over Gardner all the time. Robbo is for me someone who is suited to that. Obviously if you want pace and overlapping runs then Gardner of a few years ago is more suited to that.

I suppose it depends what you're looking for.

But most Bolton fans seem to have taken to him, so you know, we can't all be wrong

He couldn't afford my missus.

I just happen to have a firm belief that he's very limited - possibly to the same extent that the peeps who saw Nolan as finished, saw. I dunno. I see lost of space down our left, with a well intentioned donkey there...

Most Bolton fans, booed the last Manager - were they right to do so?

Hang fire. the best part of Gardner was his pace to recover. And he was a bloody good tackler. Better in just about every respect bar shoutyness.

Robbo's not bad, but really, he's just alright. With plenty of spirit.

Though he did play a blinder against Wigan.

I'd say Robbo is better in the tackler, better in the air, tougher and a better passer.

Gardner is/was, quicker, better going forwards, more skillful and had a better engine.

Just my reading of it.

I'm with this view. Although plenty of times I nearly crapped myself on the "recover" bit...

I don't mind Robbo, but peeps who are adulating him, need to have seem Brian Smith when we played Everton in the replay. Then they'd probably say he was a bit average.

If I recall correctly. The first home game we played them after Reidy got his leg broken (a couple of years later 78/79 in the First Division), Mr Smith kicked them all over the park and we won 3-1. Could be my memory playing tricks though...

The Oracle has spoken, would you want any of the players that Twitcher is supposedly offering in exchange?

Hutton and O'Hara plus £15m+ maybe.

I'm not overly keen on taking a load of their cast offs of them TBH.

Nice to see the words tug of war and Aston Villa. £23 mil for D. Bent should see us getting £20 mil for Cahill.

The offer will come eventually and we will have to part company which is sad, but life and Bolton will go on.

As a side note,

Anyone see the little conversation between Coyle and Jerome yesterday? I might be looking too much into it but ...

No, everyone thought Nolan was fat and hopelessly out of form.

He was.

You can lose weight and regain form by moving to a different environment, its difficult to ditch shiteness.

I think I heard the word shite mentioned on more than one occasion. Like some folk, the fact that oppo fans think X or Y are shite, doesn't necessarily mean that our Manager couldn't work with them and turn it around. As SKD is probably testament to. And Nolan at Newcastle.

He also complimented DJ Campbell on the ESPN chatty bit after the game, telling him to 'keep up the good work'? Could there be something in that?

I think we should only connect with any players that OC describes as "terrific".

Which probably narrows it down to most of them...
