Ah, if we're having a hotel moan - I specifically ordered a room with a double bed, not two fecking singles. Have asked to be moved and of course the place is full.Worthy4England wrote:I'm apparently eating fcuk all. In hotel, ordered grub at 20 past eight. Still, I did get fed.

Unfortunately, I also have cheese and biscuits - I should have told them to leave that whilst they went and cooked me dinner.

One for TANGO and others with a liking for that great Spanish invention - sherry. (I'm a fan).
The Observer today did a nice feature on the golden nectar - including a Palo Cortado that retails at £16.99 for a half bottle.
Much more easily afforded and availale from Sainsburys are La Gitana Manzanilla at £8.49 and Taste the Difference 12 year old Dry Amontillado at £6.85. Both highly rated by the Ob's David Williams.
I feel a trip to a supermarket coming on.

Never really considered sherry, William. I just remember it as being that sweet, syrupy brown stuff that my nana used to refer to as her 'medicine'.William the White wrote:One for TANGO and others with a liking for that great Spanish invention - sherry. (I'm a fan).

If there's a crisp, less-sweet version around then I could possibly go for that.
Is there a food that's good with sherry?
Anyway, as I've been in Burton for the past two nights I've been (over) imbibing in Marston's Pedigree, and subsequently, today have had an arse like a ragman's trumpet.

Both the above recommendations are dry - the manzanilla especially so. I think dry sherry is a perfect aperitif with nibbles - esp olives.Bruce Rioja wrote:Never really considered sherry, William. Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Sherry's a bit mis-understood. The likes of QC Cream and other such are nothing more than fortified wine. I confess I've always been partial to sweet or pale cream varieties and in Spain drink Malaga Virgen or Sacramonte. Over here the supermarket Spanish import stuff is great value because it's mainly Jerez import. That said, the Gonzales Byass medium dry Amontilado I had at Christmas was oh so palatable and might suit you better. It's mainly a pre dinner aperitif for me these days.Bruce Rioja wrote: Never really considered sherry, William. Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Bought the amontillado today. Just had a little taste. If you like sherry at all, you'll definitely like this. Just over £7.00 for 50cl. Classy drink - dry but a little hint of sweetness left on the tongue. Be great with olives, anchovies, manchego or asturian cheese, probably be very good with cured meats as well (I don't do them, but remembering...). They didn't have the La Gitana Manzanilla. They did have an own brand manzanilla but I didn't get (amazingly, under a fiver for 70cl).William the White wrote:One for TANGO and others with a liking for that great Spanish invention - sherry. A nice drop of Carignan Vin de Pays de l'Herault with some Iberico Ham and Manchego cheese. And very nice it is too.
