Re: What are you watching tonight?
nothing much does happen, you basically just observe a year in the life of this average happily married & content middle aged couple, who happen to be surrounded by dysfunctional, incredibly unhappy & depressed loved ones, who despite the love offered to them, seem to disintegrate further scene by scene.
It has this atmosphere i cant explain, i was compelled, and i can relate to it too! The acting is superb, Peter Wight (Nige the copper from Early doors) is ace but he is totally eclipsed by Leslie Manville. there's an interesting cameo from Imelda Staunton too, whose character i would have liked to learn more about if anything.
cant really think of many faults, maybe tom and Gerri's happiness is a bit too smug, and i didnt like Toms nephew much either, but these dont take anything away from this great flick.

Like the General has said it's a year in the life of a couple, but a very, very boring year.thebish wrote:something must have happened!! or do you mean - nothing blew up?
The story doesn't go anywhere, the characters remain the same and nothing much changes throughout the year.
I suppose it's main downfall is that it's too true to life.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Just watched The Bible's Buried Secrets. Basically vying archeology yo-yo teams all spouting views based on "new evidence suggests" something countered by "more recent evidence suggests" etc. Very interesting nevertheless from its showing of ancient architecture and finds and the cultures and lifestyles of Israel, Judah and Samaria. Still seem to be far more people fiendishly determined to prove the Bible got it wrong than those worried about proving it had it right. All a bit like somebody claiming in the distant future "Back in the mists of time there was a Kingdom called Old Trafford that ruled the sporting world of Old England". More startling revelations next week.

If your a skier/boarder like me you might enjoy 'Frozen'? Mrs was choosing tonight and she likes the scary ones so chose this, which I didn't mind as its basically about being stuck on a chairlift, and when you have been left dangling up there for 20 minutes or so, survival thoughts start to run wild!
It's pretty rubbish tbh but I still enjoyed it, but only because of skiing angle.

Watched Katyn tonight - the story of the massacre of about 12000 Polish officers and leading Polish intellectuals by Stalinist forces in 1940, and the subsequent attempted cover up and collusion in denial by Polish people who knew the truth but dared not speak it...
This is a seriously good film - I think it may be the best by Andrzej Wajda - but probably the most sombre film I'll see this year.
I'm very glad to have seen it.
Just to be reminded of how truly vile Nazism and Stalinism were and how deeply they stained the last century and how many millions they murdered... This is not a documentary, it's a genuine drama... And outstanding...

Well, the old Sony Trinitron's finally given up the ghost.thebish wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:Ah, you don't know of my tele dilemma. This tele is still in perfect working order and as such will be my tele until it pops. As such, I am missing out, I know.
ouch!! I just picked up a huuuuuge Sony Trinitron off freecycle for free - including the little glass cabinet underneath... it is FECK heavy!!!! the woman told me it was heavy - and I thought - yeah, right - tellies are heavy dear.. but - this one wouldn't weigh much more if (in fact) it was a landrover with a plug attached...
(actually - I don't think you are really missing out - except on the space it would save!!!)
Where's the best place to go for a new tele?

Pioneer are knocking out some top tele's for cheap. Low warranty though is their discontinuing their Plasma / LCD range.Bruce Rioja wrote:Well, the old Sony Trinitron's finally given up the ghost.thebish wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:Ah, you don't know of my tele dilemma. We've got a belter of a TV from them. 46in and the picture quality is excellent. Bout 2K at the time, probably half that now
In fact, this one comes with a 3 year warranty
