Re: Wanderers v Man U
I've only seen it as it happened - it just looked like two guys each determined to win a 50/50 ball so I was surprised to see the whistle happy Ref fetch out the red. A gash, you say? well that's a blessing in a way considering our boy's no stranger to broken legs.Prufrock wrote:I'd rather have lost and kept Holden than lost him and got a draw. To lose as well is gutting. Evans tackle was HORRENDOUS. Holden had what looked like a very nasty gash on his fecking knee.
May the bridges I burn light your way

are you sure it wasn't photoshopped??
I was just thinking of the other gash that you informed us was photoshopped...
(all of which use of the word "gash" reminds me of a gross internet game...)

Which it was....

a portion of the photo was magnified - zoomed in - which is hardly what people usually mean when they say "photoshopped" the wound was shown just as it was, no?
Re: Wanderers v Man U
Think the thing is Holden slides in at an angle with the intention of trying to knock it past Evans, whereas Evans just goes straight in with studs up for the ball, risking injurying his opponent. Deserved red and Giggs can feck right off for trying to talk the ref out of it. Typical German.
Anyway the result felt like it didn't matter after that. Let's hope he's OK.

i kind of saw it like Bruce did... the ball is on the floor - so all the "studs up" stuff is a little OTT - either player could have come out of that with an injury - the angle made it more likely to be Holden. Not surprised it was a red - but i'm guessing more because of the outcome than the actual incident. If you slide into a 50-50 ball with your shin on the floor - you do risk an injury... that's commitment though - and Holden has it in spades - as does Robbo - except that Robbo appears to be made of well seasoned and toughened oak!Athers wrote:Think the thing is Holden slides in at an angle with the intention of trying to knock it past Evans, whereas Evans just goes straight in with studs up for the ball, risking injurying his opponent. Re: Wanderers v Man U
No tey couldn't fair play it was on the floor but Holdens angle was taken by a player attempting to play the ball with the top of his boot, to scoop it round, he only ever tried to get the laces, the bit you kick with.. Whilst Evans lunged in off the floor and was only ever going to get there with the base of the foot..and his studs, If he got there at all.. with reckless indifference for the consequences hopefully he gets a ban that reflects the damage..thebish wrote:i kind of saw it like Bruce did... the ball is on the floor - so all the "studs up" stuff is a little OTT - either player could have come out of that with an injury - the angle made it more likely to be Holden. I just imagine the noise if it were the other way about... and we're on here saying it was a fair 50/50..
It was may be a fair 50/50 in about 1973... ... but fortunately career threatening stupid recklessness no longer passes for 'provin' it's a mans game'
Are we in League 2 yet - Three seasons and we'll be away to Chesham
Re: Wanderers v Man U
I'd like to mention the referee, who instead of checking on Holden and getting the medical staff on the pitch straight away, was more concerned with backing off from the scene (followed by those Germans Giggs & Evra) so that he could give the red card.
Check on the players for god's sake. It's surely their first duty. Same thing happened with Klasnic last season when he was kicked in the head!

I beg your pardon? I said that I've only seen it the once - whilst at at Old Trafford, and it looked from my seat as though two blokes went in for a 50/50 ball. As such, I haven't had the benefit of TV replays and was asking for clarification from those that have. Do go on....norm the jedi wrote:No tey couldn't fair play it was on the floor but Holdens angle was taken by a player attempting to play the ball with the top of his boot, to scoop it round, he only ever tried to get the laces, the bit you kick with.. Re: Wanderers v Man U
MOTD made me feel sick. All about United and the commentator actually "screaming" at their goal like it was a 25 yds rocket instead of a tap in. First up and you'd hardly think we played.

nahh - still can't see it as summat to be outraged about or conduct a witch hunt... two players - both totally commited - giving 100% - both slide in for a 50-50 ball at full stretch - one comes out injured - could have been either.
fair enough - hard to see through scum-tinted glasses - but - as others ask what might have happened if it had been the other way around - my guess is that NONE of us would have been calling Holden a dirty, cheating bastard and calling for a red - we'd all have seen a 50-50 challenge with one coming out injured.
as for dishing out bans that "reflect the damage" - that's simply stupid.
