If it's a gash, and provided it gets no infection, it won't be career threatening. No excuse for the challenge which was two-footed and dirty, but I'm thinking he'll be okay if no bones got jarred. (Crosses fingers and toes).
Show me how that is two footed and it certainly wasn't dirty...

Either player could have left the field on a stretcher yesterday...

On another note, i thought the improvement this season from Bolton was incredible...

Muamba, Holden, Cahill & Wheater all had great matches imo...

You should have put that header away in the second half, you cant miss an opportunity like that against United...

The one player i think would improve you greatly would be Charlie Adam... a bit of creativity in the middle...

Deserved red and Giggs can feck right off for trying to talk the ref out of it. Typical German.

Anyway the result felt like it didn't matter after that. Let's hope he's OK.
i kind of saw it like Bruce did... the ball is on the floor - so all the "studs up" stuff is a little OTT - either player could have come out of that with an injury - the angle made it more likely to be Holden. Not surprised it was a red - but i'm guessing more because of the outcome than the actual incident. If you slide into a 50-50 ball with your shin on the floor - you do risk an injury... that's commitment though - and Holden has it in spades - as does Robbo - except that Robbo appears to be made of well seasoned and toughened oak!
No tey couldn't fair play it was on the floor but Holdens angle was taken by a player attempting to play the ball with the top of his boot, to scoop it round, he only ever tried to get the laces, the bit you kick with.. Whilst Evans lunged in off the floor and was only ever going to get there with the base of the foot..and his studs, If he got there at all.. with reckless indifference for the consequences hopefully he gets a ban that reflects the damage..
I just imagine the noise if it were the other way about... and we're on here saying it was a fair 50/50..
It was may be a fair 50/50 in about 1973... ... but fortunately career threatening stupid recklessness no longer passes for 'provin' it's a mans game'

nahh - still can't see it as summat to be outraged about or conduct a witch hunt... two players - both totally commited - giving 100% - both slide in for a 50-50 ball at full stretch - one comes out injured - could have been either.

fair enough - hard to see through scum-tinted glasses - but - as others ask what might have happened if it had been the other way around - my guess is that NONE of us would have been calling Holden a dirty, cheating bastard and calling for a red - we'd all have seen a 50-50 challenge with one coming out injured.

as for dishing out bans that "reflect the damage" - that's simply stupid.
Aye but they could extend the bad to show that they are getting tough with these types of tackles. Also it helps Man U because they would not have to worry about putting Evans on the pitch again, which certainly has to help their chances getting a result in a game.

The end result is that we had several chances to not only get a draw but win that game. We didn't take those chances and got punished as a result. Do hope that Holen isn't hurt too bad. We really need him on the pitch no matter who we are playing against.

In fairness to Evans, I've seen the challenge a few times now, and I don't think there was any intent to injure Holden. Just my view.

Aye, in retrospect both would have got slated for pulling out of going for the ball. That said, you just can't go in studs up for a ball and Evans did, and got carded for it. I'm sure there was no intent to injure but the loss of one of our best players at a critical time incensed me a bit. I've seen it a dozen times and it was heat of the moment stuff and reckless but I'll withdraw the "dirty" comment. Just hope it isn't serious enough to cost us by losing Holden for games we badly need him in. The last fifteen minutes showed how much of an influence he's become for us.

Thought Muamba did ok yesterday. Broke up play well, harried and harrassed. Its what he's there for. Could have done better with the chance, but you could say the same of Elmander, and he's a striker.

In fact, I thought they all played well apart from Sturridge, who seemed anonymous and disinterested. I called the substitution at half time. And Jussi could have done better with that ball. But that kind of shit always happens at OT.

Edit: Actually apart from Taylor. He had a great chance, and I think its no coincidence that Holden had been tracking the midfield runners all afternoon, then he goes off and they score.

Words cannot describe how much I hate Man Utd. I find them the most abhorrent most abnoxious 'supporters' ever. Fair fcuks to the real fans tho. Had to sell my ticket for yesterday cos of work so watched it in the pub. Oh they were all there giving it the big 'un, total gobshites who know fcuk all about football. All you have to do is ask how many games they been to this season and the subjects changed. Filth! rant over, come on chelsea in champs league

Muamba's three-quarters of a very good player. If he ever gets his touch right and learns to shoot he could be world beater.

Let's not get carried away either way on the Evans tackle. To suggest a lengthier ban than the three games coz Pea Head got a big cut, or a bad injury is wrong. There was no intent to specifically hurt Holden. However it is still a shocking tackle. The ball is 50-50, but one player went in studs down, and one studs up. Definitely a red card. Unfortunately we missed Holden a lot more than they missed Evans, who is wank anyway, but given we were holding on for a point, one fewer defender didn't affect them other than to give Taylor the free header he missed. The goal was coming for the 10-15 mins before, just a shame it came from a Jussi error, given he had been excellent till then.

Gutted. The Shithouses. Hope Stu is fine for the semi.

I beg your pardon? I said that I've only seen it the once - whilst at at Old Trafford, and it looked from my seat as though two blokes went in for a 50/50 ball. As such, I haven't had the benefit of TV replays and was asking for clarification from those that have. Do go on....
I will .... Did I quote you,? or somebody else, agreeing with you despite the benefit of replay? wind your neck in
I'll wind my neck in when I'm good and ready thanks.

Now then, let us return to your remarks, to wit: "Holdens angle was taken by a player attempting to play the ball with the top of his boot, to scoop it round, he only ever tried to get the laces, the bit you kick with"

No he didn't - he went too early and had his knee at the back of the ball at the moment of impact. His foot was nowhere near it. I'll stick with my assertion that it was a 50/50 ball. You keep making it up as much as you like.
May the bridges I burn light your way

no... Holden made contact with the ball with his knee - he misjudged his slide. he wasn't trying to get himself injured - nor was evans trying to injure him - it was an accident in a physical game between two commited players, that's all.

Aye this is bob on.

Evans is still a wanker who I wish nothing but ill too. Mind that goes for all Man Utd players and fans.

no - it isn't. if that was a "shocking tackle" then you run out of language for properly malicious tackles...
