Re: Recall Gardner?
hmmm... maybe at left back - but central midfield? looked a bit at sea when he came on there against Southampton IIRC...

Well, there can't only be me that thinks that Petrov's been a waste of a shirt both down at Brum and at O/T on Satdi!CAPSLOCK wrote:No, he won't

Re: Recall Gardner?
i'd love to see rodrigo given a go there. he's got pace and ball control enough, just perhaps not physically strong enough. but could do a job coming on for muamba when chasing a game with 20 to go.

Josh f'king Vela!! Saviour!
Re: Recall Gardner?
Gardner and Muamba would be dreadful. MD and Muamba with Cohen on for Mavies as often as possible to wrap him in cotton wool. Gardner excelling there at LB. If only he could stay fit.....

Actually balls to that. What I'd do, and wouldn't be surprised if balls out Owen did, would be Muamba-MD, and when MD is injured/fooked Muamba-Chungy. He's got the nous, and the engine. Played in behind the strikers in a diamond a few times too.

Re: Recall Gardner?
I wouldn't want it for the full 90 at the moment, but certainly CYL in the last 25 doesn't fill me with trepidation. He is a quality player, and I think he has the ability to move more centrally given time.

Lee can only go in the middle WITH 2 others - in a 5
Behind Sturridge, or Elmander, but that won't happen while the captain remains undroppable

I'd be terrified if we started that way. That said, there's a lot of things I thought that couldn't happen that have worked in 25 minute bursts this season. Blackpool at home we ended up with five strikers/wingers on!

Re: Recall Gardner?
Cohens not been up to much. JOB has been starting in the reserves I think?
Young lad who watches them and posts here will confirm. And tell us Danny ward should play. Or vela?

Better get him up to scratch pdq...Tombwfc wrote:While he's playing at Preston (and looking a class above, by all accounts) there's no point rushing to recall him so he can sit on our bench.
I think he'd be a good option to have, but then I thought the same last week. Maybe Coyle just doesn't rate him?
Has Tamir been playing for the reserves recently by the way? He's looked way short of match fitness since returning.

Re: Recall Gardner?
FWIW, I feel I was a bit rash with my comments.
JOB's getting back to fitness.
And you're probably right about Vela.
I reckon the pecking order of players when everyone is fit is;
Holden
Muamba
Mavies
Davis
Cohen
JOB
Connolly
Blakeman
Vela

Re: Recall Gardner?
One of our strengths recently has been energy levels and commitment for ninety minutes. Not sure how many apart from Holden, Muamba and Mark Davis are up there right now.

Go on then, cos in all fairness you watch 'em and we don't
Hows Joey O been getting on in the stiffs?
My recollection is he did a pre season, pulled summat again and he's been back playing for about a month?
See Mavies/Muamba is clearly gonna be Coyle's first choice now, but I have my concerns about Mavies and his ability to stay injury free. And I really don't rate Cohen; neither does Coyle else he'd be on the bench and not Robbie Blake. So the simpleton in me says Joey O with a month of football behind him has a fair old chance of sneaking some football in the next month. He wouldn't be running around harrying like Holden for 90 minutes though, that's for sure.

I went to the first reserve match of the season what he played in and he outshone Sean Davis, but tbf Davis pulled up 15 minutes into the game with his injury (and carried on playing).

hmmm - and Coyle would rather keep a half empty bench than put any of the last three on it...
