Samuel had a bad repuation at Villa with fans questioning his attitude. That has continued here.

You could say "no smoke" and all that.

My other point being, Coyle hasn't really given him a chance and I think that speaks volumes!

I can't remember a time when you could put the plural to people questioning his attitude. I think in the past you might have, maybe.

But I'm not trying to say its "fact".

I'm merely saying that at both Villa and here Samuel has been painted as the poster boy for "all that is wrong with the modern footballer".

That may well be an unfair description. He may be a great tryer, have a superb attitude and contribute to team spirit.

However, the limited evidence we have in terms of on the pitch attitude and managers' seeming keeness to replace/get rid of him points to perhaps that description not being inaccurate.

I was specifically referring to your use of the "no smoke" argument.

it is always a rubbish argument - it basically says "if there is a rumour about someone - there must be some truth to it" - which is scurrilous and rubbish at the same time.

it is the kind of argument that makes tabloids possible.

(also - you do get smoke without fire)

Having met the bloke, I can confirm he's a wanker. He comes across as a sort of "If you're not famous, you're shit" kind of person.

Plus he refers to himself as "Sweet boy" and has it emblazoned onto the head rests of his car.

I don't think the lad let us down too often, but then neither did he create much. That could have been down to the fact that he was playing with a fat (and largely uninterested, that season) Taylor in front of him who constantly played with his back to goal and laid the ball back to JLS with no other option in front of him apart from a 'dink' to Davies.

That's assuming JLS wasn't completely out of position at that point

Coyle also hasn't given a lot of players a chance, Gardner being an obvious one.

He's the poster boy for 'all that is wrong for the modern footballer', because he's a million miles away from your average football fan - young, black, likes rap music and fast cars, and has amassed a decent fortune despite making an average of about 20 apperances per season (average being the notable word). He's like Ashley Cole without the worldbeating talent (or much talent at all, depending on your viewpoint).

Are there any stories of him doing anything particularly cuntish? He could be a nice person for all I know, but he's done little to live up to his negative reputation, aside from the crime of him and his wife calling each other by daft nicknames. Some of our players (past and present, I'm thinking of two in particular) seem to get up to far more questionable things away from the field, and become cult heroes for it.

just to check....

by "shite" - you just mean - a bit average???

I mean shite for this level. I call Jermain Defoe, Jonny Evans, Carrick, Wright Phillips, Bendtner and others shite on a regular basis, coz they are for title challenging teams, but they'd all be in and around our XI. I reckon he'd be average at best in the Champo, and Cardiff should be looking at better. Obvs he isn't shite compared to you or I though. Well, I can only speak for myself.

Carrick wouldn't survive in our midfield with his swanning-about-not-doing-much approach.
