J L Samuel ... Gone to Cardiff.
Has completed his loan move to Cardiff. Hopefully it becomes long term at the end of the season and we get his wages off the books.

Promotion-chasing Cardiff City have signed Jlloyd Samuel on loan from Bolton Wanderers for the rest of the season.
The Wanderers left-back has struggled to make any kind of impact at the Reebok Stadium this term and has not managed a single appearance for the Premier League club.
Samuel's move not only provides him with the opportunity of first-team football but also boosts Cardiff's promotion ambitions to England's top flight over the remaining eight games of the season.
The 29-year-old former Aston Villa man arrives just days after the Bluebirds lost influential centre-back Mark Hudson for between four to six weeks due to a grade two tear to knee ligaments, with manager Dave Jonespreparing for a possible defensive reshuffle.
Samuel, who has made 83 appearances for Bolton since signing in 2007, is in line to make his City debut when the club return to action following the international break at home to Derby on 2nd April

So at the moment it looks like Jlo Joey O and Ricky G are making room in the summer. Do we know if Sean Davis is out of contract in the summer aswell? And what would that little lot amount to in wages? And will they be freed up, or are we simply desperate to have them off the books?

Sean Davis signed a 3 year contract in July 2009,so one more, hopefully injury free season to earn an extension

I know - Just saying if he is fit in time for the start of next season (not sure how long he's expected to be out for?) then there's both the motivation for him to prove himself to the fans and staff at Bolton but also to earn himself a new contract, say one year. But I agree its a long way off and we just need to concentrate on getting the guy fit (and staying fit).

Not to mention he isn't getting any younger .. he will be 32 in September. So by the time he comes to the end of his contract he will be hitting 33. Personally i would think his time is coming to an end with us.

It's a shame tho. I remember he was featured in a matchday programme either the start of this season or the end of last. Everyone was optimistic he was going to burst into the first team and increase the quality of the squad.
It's good that we're getting JLo and JOB's wages paid by other clubs while their contracts run out. It feels like we're starting to shift the deadwood and can hopefully start to replant over the coming transfer windows.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
Re: J L Samuel ... Gone to Cardiff.
Surely best to make that decision in a years time. You've got to give the guy an incentive to work hard

If the 2 loans are like most others the vast majority of their wages will still be paid by their "parent club" ie.us. There will however have been a loan fee paid to us, in fact I understand that the size of the fee asked for JOB almost scuppered the deal.

Re: J L Samuel ... Gone to Cardiff.
Some time in the future contracts may have a "based on games played" wages structure with a sensible "retainer wage" paid after a certain period out till they're fully fit and available again. Bolton have always been fair with their long time or recurring injured players: Ricky Garner, Quinton Fortune, JLloyd and Sean Davies being the most recent examples. In the past Warwick Rimmer and Mark Fish (I'll stand correction on that one?) were much the same. Not really the players faults, just the system that lets them get paid ridiculous amounts whilst not playing. At a time when the club is struggling with massive debts it all seems more than a bit ridiculous, and loaning them out makes big sense. Crazy wages, agents fees and exhorbitant lifestyles are slowly strangling the life out of football. Not much new then.

Do clubs carry insurance against injuries?
Or is the cost prohibitive?

I'm sure they do, but I'll bet the costs and renewals are sky high these days in a lot of cases.Wandering Willy wrote:Do clubs carry insurance against injuries? Or is the cost prohibitive?

All the best to J Lloyd; he's not the best we've ever had, but far from the worst. I hope he can get his career back on track and he enjoys some success at Cardiff.

So just to clarify here. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but....a1 wrote:sack holden off as well too.for savis is a cut your losses and get rid

You're comparing one of the best free signings we've ever made* with a guy who's managed about 6 appearances all told for us? Right?
The Megson shit makes more sense by the minute.

I suspect it was a sarky joke about players being injured often... that's all. Holden has already had two big injuries since joining us.Lord Kangana wrote:So just to clarify here. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but....a1 wrote:sack holden off as well too.for savis is a cut your losses and get rid

Holden has managed far more games in 1 1/2 seasons than Davis ever will in his 3. Theres not much of a point in there.
