hmmm... last time we played Stoke - Holden played - we lost.

Davies didn't exactly "miss a sitter", as a couple claimed. He was coming in on a very fast ball and wasn't able to quite get over it enough. If it had gone in we'd be shouting wonder goal. Also, how the fxxk did Phillips's shot get past Steninsson who as standing on the post? Our loss today came from bad defending as much as not playing much football. Apart from Sturridge I don't remember one player running at the defence down the middle, something Mark Davies is sadly missed for. Muamba too is coming in for some unneccesary stick because he has no partner to rely on. Cohen was totally inefectivea today. Way we played long ball we could have done worse than put Chungy in his place and left Petrov on the wing. He was getting some good balls across. Not our best display by a long chalk and we need to sort it out to have any chance of going anywhere.

We weren't great, but they're shite too. I think we deserved a point. And, respectfully, Tom is talking absolute bollocks re Foster. The one low to his right from Sturridge was a very very good strong hand save, the one at the death from Steinsson was a brilliant reflex stop, and the one low to his left to keep out Sturridge towards the end of the first half was out of this world good. Added to another three of four very good stops. Foster 2-1 Bolton today for me. Some times that happens.

Re: Brum vs Bolton (League)
We were'nt that bad. I called the Cohen substitution early. Bless him, but he's not the requisite calibre compared to our other three. Made a major difference when he went off.
And besides, they wanted it more. And really went for it. And but for a bad goalkeeping error and a touch of luck we'd have had between 1 and 3 points. Nothing to worry about, even Megson wins now and then.

Not much better from our view, Tango. Managed to settle into the match a little bit but we missed Holden. I'm not one to panic and cry about the lack of him in the team sheet but I realised how important he was. Foster had a great match for them and, I guess we were kinda unlucky not to get a draw in the end.TANGODANCER wrote:Davies didn't exactly "miss a sitter", as a couple claimed. Disappointing day but I expected a loss to be honest. I'll be writing the match report tomorrow.
Re: Brum vs Bolton (League)
Holden is a vital player, but without him AND Mark Davies, our midfield has no ideas.
We'll be alright, but we need better cover than Cohen, if we can afford it...which we can't!
I don't care how Coyle does it, he needs to get Chung-Yong playing again. A player that good shouldn't be sat on our bench, imho, not if we want him to still be a Bolton player next season, and there's (again, imho) a lot more chance on him staying than Elmander.
Oh and if we're talking about bringing a player into central midfield that isn't natural there (Gardner, please not there, not central midfield) I'd far prefer Matty Taylor there.

OK bring Taylor in then, just think it was a big gamble by Owen to play Cohen when he lacks match practice. Ahh well, we live to fight another day

My fault, sorry. When I went to Brum for the cup match, I got talking to a couple of club execs outside the turnstile. Bit of banter, I happened to express a sincere desire to trade three points in the league for the cup win. They accepted. We promptly won the cup match.
Sorry everyone...

I do tire of football fans desire to have someone to piss all over. It'd not just Bolton, everyone does it. It's been Taylor, but he's bench mostly now, so we look for someone else. It's been Steinsson ... till we realised how we didn't have many better options while he was missing.
So now it's the Mu. Muamba is a good stopping player, he's never going to be a crearive one & it is unfortunate that he goes to pieces when he sniffs a goal opportunity. Holden is a super player, the one we've cried out for since Allardyce stopped JJ from expressing himself. But he's injured, so we move on.
Mavis is Wilshire-light. Very decent player indeed, hopefully fit & up for it by the semi final.
Cohen is not, never has been, never will be a true Premiership player. Add that to a lack of match practice/fitness, plus being required to replace Holden of all people and he is not the solution.
CYL .... needed a break, well Owen, he's had one, now please start playing him again. Meanwhile to be fair Petrov's been pretty decent this past month.
I do wish we had Holden fit ... but, with him injured, the World hasn't ended and Muamba is not Robert Mugabe & we should stop treating him like he is.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Hear, hear. Admittedly, for me, he'd be our 3rd choice CM behind Holden and Davies, but I don't get cold shivers down my spine seeing his name on the teamsheet like I do Cohen.

He's old, slow, talks a lot of bollox and probably has no ability with a football.
Its amazing that he wasn't already in the squad.

Good saves, but to say any were 'out of this world good', is bollocks. If any of them had gone in you'd be saying he should've done better.Prufrock wrote:We weren't great, but they're shite too. Wheater is pefectly adequate and a decent bit of business at £2mil, I just really don't see what seperates him from Zat Knight. He appeared to have the agility and quickness of thought of Jaidi for their second yesterday.

What separates him from Knight is he just looks a lot more composed and less likely to trip over his own feet sending one of their players clean through in the process!Tombwfc wrote:Good saves, but to say any were 'out of this world good', is bollocks. Second goal was purely Muamba's fault IMO!
Re: Brum vs Bolton (League)
He didn't fall over, but there wasn't a lot of composure in Birmingham's first goal in the QF and he made a similar mess of a clearance yesterday.BWFC_Insane wrote:What separates him from Knight is he just looks a lot more composed and less likely to trip over his own feet sending one of their players clean through in the process!Tombwfc wrote:Good saves, but to say any were 'out of this world good', is bollocks. I don't think he's the worst player ever to pull on a pair of boots like you have with Muamba, but he's IMO going to prove as error prone as Knight.

All defenders are gonna make mistakes. Cahill has botched a fair few clearances here, some leading to goals. He's still gonna go for a lot of money I suspect.Tombwfc wrote:He didn't fall over, but there wasn't a lot of composure in Birmingham's first goal in the QF and he made a similar mess of a clearance yesterday.BWFC_Insane wrote:What separates him from Knight is he just looks a lot more composed and less likely to trip over his own feet sending one of their players clean through in the process!Tombwfc wrote:Good saves, but to say any were 'out of this world good', is bollocks. Knight has never looked like a natural defender to me whereas Wheater has.
I never said Muamba was the worst player to pull on a pair of boots, but he has been carried by Stuart Holden this season IMO. And yesterday really highlighted that.

Re: Brum vs Bolton (League)
I'm sure you can see if you really try BWFCI, that Muamba/Holden, Muamba/Davies are two sides of a coin. The have seperate roles to play yet one needs the other. With both Davies and Holden missing Muamba is being highlighted a bit unfairly for lack of a decent partner. Both the other two are link-men and creators with Muamba the defensive aspect/ the break-up man. At that we have few, if any, who are better.BWFC_Insane wrote: I never said Muamba was the worst player to pull on a pair of boots, but he has been carried by Stuart Holden this season IMO.
