Johan Elmander and Gary Cahill eyed by Arsenal in summer transfer raid

Bolton striker Johan Elmander could be on his way to either Arsenal or Juventus in the summer after Trotters boss Owen Coyle admitted Champions League football could tempt the Swede to leave at the end of the season.

Johan Elmander's Bolton Wanderers contract expires this summer. Elmander has refused to be drawn on his future plans, and while Coyle wants to keep the club's £8.2 million record signing, he admits that the lure of European football will be difficult to compete with.

'When the season ends, we will certainly have one last go at trying to persuade him to sign a new contract,' he said.

'But if there is a club out there in the top bracket that can offer him the lure of Champions League football, then he will do what any player would. All players crave that sort of chance.'
. As well as losing Elmander, Coyle is also facing up to the possibility of a bigger club poaching England defender Gary Cahill.

After playing his first full 90 minutes for the national team against Ghana last week, Coyle admitted that Cahill will be attracting bids from major Premier League clubs this summer, with Arsenal thought to be keen on the 25-year-old.

Yeah, you're right, they'll be going to a better team than that.

Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Cahill is, Elmander not.

Agreed. Elmander has had a few flashes of brilliance in quite a few years with Bolton. Cahills more consistent and better then most of what we have defensively. Not sure Elmander would get a place in the starting line up (though i'd still swap him for Bendtner ;) )

Anybody else half expecting Elmander to sign up next week if we get European football?
It's been by far his best season to date, and I know he'll be a freebie, but I can't believe they'll be many champions league clubs chasing his signature too enthusiastically

He's inconsistent, but given a good manager who can put his arm around his shoulder, Elmander is a top six rather than a top four player for me. Cahill is made for the big clubs with lots of possession and rarely under serious pressure. He'd be a top signing for Arsenal.

You can have them both for a combined £30m, or £1m plus Wilshere (in case he wants to join a club with a chance to win the league)

Thing is when Van Persil is out injured, which lets face it is quite frequently, Elmander would be a better option than anyone else Arsenal have got to come in!

Chamakhs on a par with elmander I would say.

And no thanks, think we will be keeping wilshere, especially with fabregas bound to go in the summer..

Except Elmander can play more than half a season without falling apart and needing a rest for the other half.

I'd wait till next season before talking about Chamakh too much. Started well, then got a bit tired poor little lamb. I suspect there is more to that than meets the eye!

Ah, but elmander has only played well for about half the season and it took him several seasons with you to find his purple patch didn't it?

Now that Arsenal have been bought out there is a chance they might get Cahill. I think other teams will be in on the bidding, and Arsenal and their unwilllingness to part with cash would have lost out as a result. In regards to Elmander they could do a lot worse but doubt he will end up there. Torres might be available this summer. Oh and Cahill I think is a bit over rated but it would be a huge improvement for Arsenal.

I think you'll find that i added a wink in the title to show i wasn't entirely serious but teasing, and that i also wrote

Meaning he's better then all except possibly Vermaelen. I'd like to see a centre back partnership between those 2 next season...

Was he that good defensively. I seem to remember him making quite a few mistakes. Won't argue with his shot.

I think Cahill would fit right in. I don't really rate the Arsenal CBs at the moment - seem a little clumsy and error-prone.

No way Arsenal would buy Cahill imho, Wenger has already purchased defenders recently, he won't do it again...certainly not for the coin we'd demand.

Elmander, he'd be their second best striker, but I don't think Wenger would be interested in him.

The BBC say that Man City are after Cahill, for what it's worth.
