Keep in mind your choice would obviously negate a player whose place he took and he'd have to fit in with the team. I didn't go for the obvious Nat, for instance because he just wouldn't fit in the side. He wasn't a ball player as such, he was five-feet nine tall and a lot of his game relied on wingers' crosses and getting a decent run at goal. He'd also get less free kicks than even KD, because his robust style would upset the refs. Okay, carry on... :D

who would lose their place to accomodate Ivan Campo?
Right now, with Mark Davies unlikely to make the semis and Sturridge unavailable, I'd play him in front of Muamba with Elmander up front with Davo.

Given Holden is out probably Per Frandsen in his prime. All action style would slot right in. Not our best midfielder in my time, but I reckon he'd fit right in, unlike say Campo, Hierro. Okocha would fit in with the ethos but maybe not with the 442.

Wouldn't mind a Ricardo Gardner 2005 vintage either, but that doesn't count...

Ali Al Habs...nope, sorry, too obvious fishing.

Err...Florent Laville. More out of curiosity than anything really, just to see if he really could go on and be as consistently good as he was in those handful of games for us.

I have to be honest I suspect the one thing we don't need is a total maverick midfielder who could go AWOL at any point!

Would love to have seen him play more than the 20 or so times I did though!

+1.

Based on our current system.

It could be a whole host of players. I think pre-pork pie Ricketts would do well in our current system aswell.

Steve Thompson, he was class and also Mark Patterson.

We would be pi**ing all over the prem now with those 2 in midfield.

Yup, beat me to it.

Sturridge would be nice too !

I've just realised that we've all missed the bleedin obvious.

On such a special occassion as this weekend, what we really need is.....
