Before the Game

Post by keveh » Mon Apr 18, 2011 1:08 pm

So, we are all utterly depressed, which is an understatement.

But I am sure everybody, like me, had a bloody great day up until the 11th minute.

Let's relive those good times with photos and stories.

Here are a few of my snaps

And just to show what a lack of 5000 fans looks like, well, it's basically a larger scale Reebok ;)

I loved going up to the ground, thinking "feck, what a load of Stoke fans". My dad saying "our lot'll be in the pub still" and then getting down to the Greyhound with two streets lined with White singing away and giving grief to the Stoke fans as their coaches pulled in

Sigh

Does anyone know what the song 'that all bolton fans should now' before the game was??

I've no idea how a team goes about getting 'a song' but it is something i'd love Bolton to try and do, although Delilah is an awful song hearing the stoke fans singing it at full volume before the game must have given their team a huge boost! perhaps it could be a 'the wanderer' campaign :conf: ??

The clubs were asked by the Wembley officials to provide a song each to be played.
They rightly picked Delilah. Whoever did ours was clearly taking the piss.

Heard a few weeks ago that Danny from McFly had been asked to pen a tune for us but I thought was something for the Final. It did sound like them though and am sure it mentioned Bolton and Wanderers unless I am mistaken

I hope this is true, I hope its good, I hope it sticks. Not the biggest fan of McFly's music but he seems a good lad, a true bolton-er and in fairness he's justmaking a good living out of writing simple music for a simple market..alot like football fans :D

I don't think giving the song it's first outing after that defeat is going to endear the song to the hearts of the wanderers faithful, do you?

I've no idea but it was absolute wank. If we were asked to provide a song then this would have been perfect:

He was at the game yesterday....in block 140, he was talking to fans on the concourse at HT.

Fair play to him.....shame about the gutless, spineless 11 so called BWFC players out on the pitch strolling about.

Totally agree with BWFCI's other thread on 'papering over the cracks', we were always going to struggle without Sturridge & Holden, and OC's decision to start with Elmander in midfield & Klasnic upfront certainly didn't help....a decent day out spoiled by the 90 mins on the pitch, we had no divine right to win the game, but as loads have said its the manner of the defeat that hurts.

We've had plenty of shocking heavy defeats before, the likes of Scarborough (A) 0-4, Notts County (A) 0-6, Man Utd (H) 0-6 and Sheff Weds (A), but yesterday hurt much more than any of them, I think OC has a difficult job on his hands ensuring that the season doesn't just end now, because it will be hard for a lot of the fans to get behind them for a good few games after that - and the summer will be very interesting as in my opinion we need at least 4 new 'decent' players bringing into the squad and the only way we can do that is to cash in on Cahill if anyone's still interested.

Notts County was 6-1. I was there that night as well but yesterday was worse.

Just the fact that it was the worst (ever) performance I've seen (I'm 21) and at the biggest occasion!

Incidentally did anyone notice the names of all the teams which have won the F.A. Cup arranged around the middle tier of Wembley? Nice to see us up there.

I think yesterday was worse because in many of those games we had shite and didn't have the expectation. Even Man Utd at home we were a very poor side that season.

Yesterday we expected to at least run Stoke close. It was gutting.

I think its also worse because our very highly paid players threw away possibly the only chance many of us will ever get to see our team in an FA Cup final. I'm sure it hurts the players and definitely will have hurt Coyle as it has undoubtedly tarnished his reputation. Certainly no big club will be knocking for him quite yet.

But the players have a consolation of massive pay packets and in some cases the chance to move on and have a "go" at glory elsewhere.

As fans we have nothing now. Its not like a league match where we can put it right next week. I don't see how that can ever be put right.

Aye as was I, went on a coach from the Albion in town (full of lads....), we got to the game late went in the wrong end and believe it or not in the time it took the Police to escort us around the pitch to the Bolton end I think they scored 2 goals....but in them days TBH we were not that good. But with the money we have recently spent on this squad (inc wages...) of millionaire players it certainly appeared that on paper we had enough quality to match Stoke, but yesterday almost every player lacked fight, passion, pride & ability - they looked & played almost like a team of strangers who had never met or played together before.

Personally I actually think that yesterday's non performance could actually be quite damaging 'short term', judging by comments made by most of the fans at wembley during and after the game - it will be an interesting atmosphere at the Arsenal game and the players may have a job getting the fans back on side unless they really play well & compete.

BWFCI - I agree with everything you have said....non of those players will quite be hurting anywhere near as much as all those gutted & embarassed fans streaming out of wembley early, having paid 'hard earned money' to go down and support 'their' team.
