I think everybody in the public eye get grief on there. Journalists by their nature will have people disagreeing, and some of the more extreme opinions get some real hounding by people with opposing views. Musicians constantly get told their music's crap and so it seems sportsmen and women are finding that opening themselves up to the kind of one-way impersonal abuse isn't good for them.

It says a lot about the sport that it seems to attract a particular type of nutter who feel they can say the things that have been said to some of the pros on there. It may point to a continued lack of respect between fans and the millionaire footballers, we shall see.

Thing is, Kev doesn't strike me as the regular, superstar footballer.

He strikes me as normal bloke, living the dream, and seeing abuse and shite pop up on your iPhone every few minutes, nah, I'd not waste my time either.

he wont leave, he has a little moan about the abuse and it opens the floodgates to lots of ass kissing saddos begging them not to leave saying how much they love them etc etc. im sure he his man enough to take it on the chin or completely ignore it if its particularly shite, and the abusers are in the minority too, so he can always block em. bugs me when they post moaning, self pitying tweets - his mrs is worse for it btw! but surely its playing right into the abusers hands?

Ermm can't agree. I'm not on twitter but occassionaly read his tweets. Sure by having an account he opens himself up to this stuff, but thats like saying "having an email address opens you up to abuse" or a "letterbox".

General internet rules are you shouldn't say sommat you wouldn't say to their face, of course that doesn't hold always (I'm probably guilty enough on here).

But would these folk say that to big Kev in the street? I doubt it. Just cos he has a twitter doesn't give the moronic few the right to send the man abuse. And given he has young kids, perhaps he's worried that they may start to use the interweb and stumble across the tweets directed at him? I think its fair enough. He tried to do something to bring the fans closer to the players, gets a load of abuse and spends an hour a day blocking folk. Hardly worth it is it?

There's a difference between criticism and outright abuse. The world isn't black and white. And nobody should have to put up with outright abuse, no matter how much they get paid.
