Re: Jackburn v Bolton Match Thread
I blame two people for the goal; Rodrigo for the shithouse pass and Wheater for showing their lad into a shooting position. That said, both were playing out of position. Something that also seems to have escaped everyone on here though is that it was a very sweet finish from Olsen.lovethesmellofnapalm wrote:Elmander offers nothing - i blame him for the goal. What were your expectations at the start of the season?
Coyle promised the end of all above and look whats happening now its turning into Megson 2 The return of the drudge
Coyle never promised anything like that to my knowledge. He never promised much unless I missed something?
But lets be honest here Coyle has brought many good things to the club, better unity, players seem happier, better football (in small doses), positive gameplan and an all round improvement in league position. Some things IMO have not improved or have gotten a bit worse, strength of squad hasn't really gone forwards, tactical naivety has increased and the workload on some players has gone through the roof, I also think reliance on key players still exists.
The overall analysis is that we're better off now but perhaps we can't achieve the level of improvement some might expect.
I think its unrealstic for Bolton to carry a squad of such strength and depth that we can go away from home with half a team missing/on the bench and expect a result. Coyle is not going to do any better at that than Megson would. He's still going to be hampered by our limited resources and the fact that if we're missing our better players and/or one or two are out of form we're going to struggle. He's not a miracle worker anymore than any other manager was.
Perhaps in the final analysis and I'm really not looking to open a debate, Coyle isn't quite as good YET as folk make out and Megson wasn't quite as bad as popular opinion would make out. That doesn't mean Coyle ain't a lot better it simply means that the margins where we can go are still limited as they always were. We've come close to making this a special season. And fallen short at the critical times. Its still a very good season but sadly its going to be clouded by a shiite end especially with memories of Wembley. As it happens we'd have all taken this position at the start of the season.
I still maintain that we won't really know how good Coyle can really be till next season. Of course thats exciting in some ways, but a little worrying in others. The excitement currently outweighs the worry but that doesn't mean we should ignore all the warning signs that are there.
It does feel a little like the Allardyce years where we do pretty well have a few blips and low points along the way but have a manager whose force of character and determination will plow a way through.
We'll be ok but the key test is the next 3 months.
Oh I can stand losing games its the shit way we lose that bugs!
It seriously looks like we are half a dozen good players short at this moment in time maybe a few more with those coming to the end of the line as well.
We need better coaches to set up defense and stop hoofing up field!

Coyle has achieved more in in his first full season than Megson did in twice that time and with a fraction of the budget that Megson had.BWFC_Insane wrote:Coyle isn't quite as good YET as folk make out and Megson wasn't quite as bad as popular opinion would make out.

Don't take it out of context. My broad point is that Coyle, Megson whoever they are not miracle workers. Coyle has been a big improvement but let's not get too carried away we still have enough problems he hasn't solved yet!
Re: Jackburn v Bolton Match Thread
I still agree with you BWFCi that Coyle has worked miracles and whilst he's got a lot of work to do in summer I think that we should celebrate that we've had a decent season and that it's something that we as fans can build on.

It's a context BL3, I'm just saying that Coyle has worked miracles and needs to continue, BWFCi is I think trying to say the same thing. I hope

Re: Jackburn v Bolton Match Thread
Was not good yesterday, were impotent in front of goal and I think what really showed was the lack of our midfield quality. Some fella in the stands was claiming Muamba was being punished for missing training so was on the bench? Not sure how true it was but how much can we really expect when our first 3 choices of CM are out? We were dominated through the middle and Gardner is not a CM, too lightweight, but still good to see him get a chance. Would love to see him put out on the wing one game before the end of the season. Or maybe he'd do better as a sub like against Fulham? Cohen just kept disappearing...
Strange choice of set-up. Guessing it was a reaction to the loss at fulham and a way of resting a seemingly weary squad.
However, despite the setback, cannot wait for Blackpool, a good win there and the away blues will not seen half as bad.

Re: Jackburn v Bolton Match Thread
I would of thought Muamba was one of the fittest, if not the fittest player at the club. It seems like he has been involved a bit less than last year, as Mavies and Holden anchored the midfield for a few games...so I'm not sure why he is unfit, is he carrying an injury maybe? Doesn't strike me as the type of guy who would miss training.
I suppose this is where you want Coyle to dish out a few bollockings...let people know they are playing for their futures and holidays haven't started yet. ITs that side of his personality we haven't seen yet so I'm not sure if thats how he will do it...I wouldn't like to think they are turning up for training and having a laugh, pissing about with table tennis and the like...I'm still hurting from Wembley and nothing short of 100% would satisfy me from now until the end of the season.

Surrendering the midfield, in a hugely important derby, by playing a not fully match-fit fringe player and a left back, to make a point to Muamba would definately be interesting management. "Lets play two inferior players in the centre and lose the game, that'll show him!".
Has to be bollocks that one.

Re: Jackburn v Bolton Match Thread
Yeah, my source was some fella in the stands at a blackburn match, hardly Coyle himself! Just wanted to see if there was any truth in it. Wonder why he was left out, though. Playing two inferior players in the centre, has to mean he is either injured, or has been really unconvincing so far, didn't think he has been that bad recently personally.Tombwfc wrote:Surrendering the midfield, in a hugely important derby, by playing a not fully match-fit fringe player and a left back, to make a point to Muamba would definately be interesting management. Re: Jackburn v Bolton Match Thread
In short, he's f***ed. He's run a hundred marathons this season, as would Holden have had he not got kicked lame. After that, he can't be asked to be play three games in a week in a 4-4-2 – especially, perhaps, when we've two blokes out of contract whom Coyle needs to check out. Bad timing perhaps, but the squad seems to be gasping toward the finish line and it would strike me that it's most affecting Muamba and CYL – who hasn't had a break since the winter of 2008/09.LiOC wrote:Yeah, my source was some fella in the stands at a blackburn match, hardly Coyle himself! Fair point. Guess it's probably down to that. We don't want to missing ANOTHER centre mid.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:In short, he's f***ed. 'Hugely important' to who? If Coyle wants to have a look at the rest of the squad, surely it's better to do it when the points aren't vital to us.Tombwfc wrote:Surrendering the midfield, in a hugely important derby, by playing a not fully match-fit fringe player and a left back, to make a point to Muamba would definately be interesting management.
