the best thing about being a bolton fan is simply - belonging.

the fact that it is really ultimately nowt to do with winning or trophies (and a good job too) makes us totally different to your average arsenal fan (you excepted).

the worst thing is - there's no escape.

The best thing about supporting Bolton is not having to be a fatuous tosspot that supports one of the big four, but never actually goes to see games.

Although we're all slightly biased i cant see any reason i would want to/or could afford to support a big club..take arsenal for example, they've finished in the top 4 every year for around the past decade, play brilliant football...and yet would still feel this season has been a failure. Us on the other hand, top 10 finish, semi final at wembley (we dont talk about the result ) and i think everyone would agree it has been a complete success..the elation fans like ours have taken from the win over arsenal, the draw with man utd at home, the win against tottenham is something supporters of a 'top 4' club can only match with title success which as birmingham have showed is no longer a guarantee! Less expectation = Greater enjoyment imho.

The point of belonging is also one of the reasons I love the club, anytime you see a bolton fan (outside of bolton omainly) is a rarity and if and when such events occur you can always be guaranteed a good bit of banter about the club and shared stories of our mutual suffering...coming from leeds i think you see more people wearing the colours of top 4 teams than leeds utd or any other club around and you rarely, if ever, see two strangers (both fans of top 4 clubs) chatting in a pub or whatever.

Finally the prices, my dad has been able to take me to almost every Bolton game since i was a kid and it is now my turn to return the favour..we might not win any titles but at least you can follow the team far and wide, in the end what's the good of supporting a team like man utd, in the champions league final, if you can't even afford to go watch. There's the point that top 4 fans get to watch the best players and the best teams but after going to el clasico a few weeks back i can say such privalege's are pretty over-rated!

I don't expect amazing things here. I support Bolton because I do. Take the bitter with the sweet, but enjoy it.

When we do win something, be it an actual trophy, the championship (the division not the premier league title not stupid) a game, maybe even the LDVVansSHerpaVanTrophy or whatever it will actually be a phenomenal moment....just like beating reading....just like the last match at Burnden with the title...and that feeling is awesome. 100 times the feeling any Manure, Chelsea, Liverpool etc fan gets when they win something...glory hunting or just blasé local.

The worst is the hope...

i would guess it actually feels more of an 'exclusive' club then being a gooner cos there aren't as many of you around (thats not meant in a teasing - taking the mickey - sort of way, am just musing things over)

Best ; - Being "real" fans, of a real team who get where they do by their own eforts.

I respect anyone who supports THEIR club, rather than leaping on a glory hunting bandwagon.


Worst ; - Knowing this is a good as it gets. This is our zenith. Sooner or later it'll go tits-up.
