Depends how long SKD is still here. We need some leaders though!
Wheater, Knight, and Robinson look the only decent options, and one is shite, one very average, and t'other newish.
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

I can't imagine Robinson being a signing example of sportsmanshipPrufrock wrote:

Agreed...in my end of season summary thing I said thats what I'd like the most, to sign some leaders...would love to sign a Viera type player for midfield, box to box and hard as f*cking nails, roll sleeves up and get everyone to up their game by 10%. And a Gerry Taggart type mental centre half as well to boss the back line....Zat Knight as captain? pfffffffffftPrufrock wrote:

I hope our next captain doesn't play for us at the moment, cos the options don't thrill me.
Good idea for a thread anyway cos it needs looking at. No way can Kevin Davies play 38 premier league games next year...he hasn't scored for about 4 months now?

Whatever, 2(?) open play goals from your striker who has played every match is poor anyways

I'm sure he'd point to him having twice the number of flick-ons of any other EPL player. Others might say this makes us more one-dimensional than we'd like to think. Me, I'd like to think we can switch it up a bit more next season, but that depends on who we hire this summer...officer_dibble wrote:Been saying it for months, and exaggerating more each time!Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:You can come againofficer_dibble wrote:No way can Kevin Davies play 38 premier league games next year...he hasn't scored for about 4 months now?Whatever, 2(?) open play goals from your striker who has played every match is poor anyways

Wish we had a captain like Kevin Davies, i know he may not have had his best season but theres more to being a captain then being the best player on the pitch, Davies has a great attitude and leads by example in getting stuck in and does actually care about the club. Wenger just seems to give it to the person he's scared will leave, to try and placate them -whether or not they are good captain material or deserve it (See Mr T. Henry, Mr C. Fabregas....) I bet Nasri gets it next once Fabs goes in the summer...

Much truth spoken here. Tell you what chuck, with all the love in the world for both players, we'll swap you SKD for Jack Wilshere...Gooner Girl wrote:Wish we had a captain like Kevin Davies, i know he may not have had his best season but theres more to being a captain then being the best player on the pitch, Davies has a great attitude and leads by example in getting stuck in and does actually care about the club. Davies has a great attitude some of the time.
There are plenty of games where he's looked distinctly uninterested. Perhaps thats just age catching up with him rather than an actual lack of interest but it surprises me how some weeks he seems to turn up and others with the same rest he doesn't!

I think it's more to do with who he's up against rather than any lack of interest. He gets absolutely no change out of big lumps such as Huth and Hangeland, whereas he has a field day against the likes of Upson, and I think that this is often misread.BWFC_Insane wrote:Davies has a great attitude some of the time.

Re: Who would be your next Captain be ??
Granted but thats always been the case. Last season and more significantly this there are games where he hardly moves from his central position. Yet others like Blackpool away as an example he's all over the pitch chasing full backs down, winning tackles and creating space so much so he ran himself into the ground. But there are definitely times to me he has appeared to be less than bothered. Its probably just age and that his legs aren't as willing anymore for every game.Bruce Rioja wrote:I think it's more to do with who he's up against rather than any lack of interest. I'm not at all convinced KD is a "great" captain - though I can see why GG thinks he might be given the captains she has seen at Arsenal...
however - not sure who our greatest captain has been (in the modern era)
KD is quite quiet - too quiet sometimes? I get the "lead by example" stuff - but...
Nolly - bit too shouty for my liking - though that doesn't really count as we are always told he was popular with the playing staff. from the sidelines it always looked like he yelled at someone else whenever he made a mistake...
JJ - respect! but captain material?
Gudni - probably where my money lies... I quite like having the captain at the back...
stubbs - not a bad captain by any means (again - at the back)
Browny? - hmmmm...
asa hartford - was he captain?
who else - my memory is fading fast!!

Being the captain of a football club is more than just having the armband on the pitch.
Nolan was a superb captain. So too is Davies from what I can gather
