As has been mentioned, Rodallega is too inconsistent for a top club, so the height of our competiton for a player like that will be Newcastle or Villa. Scratch Villa, as they have just signed Bent for big money.

Samba I'd say does have what it takes to compete at the top, so there'll be big competiton for him. He might aswell stay put as pop down the road to a very similar club. And besides, we have two limited but physical defenders. We need something different if Cahill is going.

In short, I think most of the names mentioned are well within the realms of possibility/probability.
Its not so much the fact we couldn't attract those players its more that they would likely cost more than we could afford.

Wenger has been interested in Rodallega. If Wigan don't go down he would cost around the 10M mark IMO.

If they do go down he might be a little cheaper but still can't see Coyle paying 7-8M for anyone, not when we need quite a few additions. It also doesn't seem to be his style to splurge on expensive names. Could be wrong like, but I get the impression he's going to look at the lower leagues with the odd freebie and loanee mixed in!

Aye- I am not expecting Coyle to do a Viv Nicholson impersonation this Summer. Loans and low cost/ freebies will be they way to go hopefully in the Holden ilk.
They're dirty, they're filthy, they're never gonna last.

Puncheon linked with us and a host of other teams, as you can guess Rangers being the latest one
Pfffft.

Aye.

I'm hoping Coyle will get the right players but I doubt it will be many if any of the suggestions anyone makes on here.

Personally I think the championship is ripe for picking if the manager knows what he's doing. Got to pick the players before they become household names.

Wheater is a good example, got him for £2.5M.

I imagine were he at say West Ham even though they went down we'd end up paying a lot more and a bigger wage too!

I think the championship will be where Coyle will be having a good hard look. I wouldn't mind Shane Long from Reading for starters .. if they don't get promotion he should stay within a reasonable price range.

I've heard from a couple of places that we've had Long watched this season. Whether as you say he'd be an acceptable price and whether we've judged him good enough and what we need, time will tell.

But he sure looks likely.

Any chance we could get that Macheda from Man Utd? perhaps on a loan deal with a look to making it permanent after a season or so. He's done alright at Sampdoria (despite them getting relegated  ) but just doesn't look like he'll cut it at Scum ahead of berbatov, hernandez, rooney so might be worth a punt.

The second least potent attack in Serie A..

Only eclipsed by Bari, who finished about 15 points adrift

Basically, he has said he wants first team football next season or he will be moving to a new club.

I bet they're quaking in those there boots...

anyway - I thought we'd been told by reliable ITK that we have already signed him.

I'm not a big Macheda fan, but can he be blamed for Sampdoria's struggles? Teams often play poorly despite strikers being good, not because strikers are bad. You could have Anelka up front and he'd struggle if his chief creative source was, say, Gavin McCann.

Sturridge can sabre-rattle all he wants, it'll have no effect at the mo. Chelsea are busy sacking their manager and hiring another. Danny boy doesn't even know who he's asking for first-team football.

He chose his words carefully but said he will be moving on if there is no first team football. When asked if it would be on loan or permanent, he said that it depends on what Chelsea allow him to do.

As usual i lost count how many times he said he loves playing for Chelsea. He also said he has really enjoyed his time with us, so will be interesting to see what happens.

Ah, but how many times did he say "obviously" and "like". That's what we really need to know! :oyea:
