Re: Loan Watch 2010/11
Rather have the pair of them than be searching for yet more squad players. At least young potential generally brings hunger and desire, and of course the potential to improve.
Rather have them on the bench than a 27k per week late twenties championship defender. For example.

Re: Loan Watch 2010/11
For Coyle to stop loaning him out and play him in the team so we can actually see for ourselves. I've seen these youngsters loaned out before, promising look really good for their loan teams but never actually quite make it and end up at a championship club or worse! I suppose my point with Ward is that despite the fact he looks decent the odds are massively stacked against him making it at this level still. But I don't see how another year of loan would be beneficial. He surely has enough matchday experience now. If he's not ready now when the hell will he be? And your point about Alonso is kind of pertinent, he's been involved, started sometimes. Surely Ward has to be at least in that bracket next season if he's ever going to make it here?Prufrock wrote:Not quite sure what more BWFCi wants. He was outstanding at business end for Swindon last year, and has been for Huddersfield this. A large part of the difference between the talented players at League 1, and the talented players at Prem level is mentality and attitude. Both clubs' fans have praised his commitment, level headedness and work rate, and he has played really well and scored goals in vital games at Swindon and Huddersfield. Scored penalties for both in Play Off semis too. It's far too early to tell if he will make it, and to write him off now is bonkers. My gut reaction is he will, up front, not out wide, but who knows.
Also, apparently Marcos Alonso was 'one for the future' despite looking like absolute dogshit whenever he got on the pitch, but Ward, one year his senior, needs to be Messi mkII by now?
I've never said much good about Alonso since seeing him play either. Over 2M quid we may as well have flushed straight down the toilet.

He took his goal pretty well.

Of course the odds are stacked against him making it. That's how pyramids are. Speaking of which, considering he'd only be a back-up (I'm sure you'd call Coyle not fit to p*ss on if we went into the season with Ward first-choice) then he's better off playing in front of 16,000 in play-off semi-finals than arsing around in front of 200 at Leyland. There comes a time in a young player's career where he's ready for first-team action even if his first team's not ready for him. Seems to me the club are playing it exactly right: Ward is doing well in whatever first team he's in, he'll spend pre-season under the coaching team's beady gaze and then he might go to a Championship team (Huddersfield?) for yet more experience at a yet higher level. How many teenagers consistently play Premier League football?

Re: Loan Watch 2010/11
If he doesn't get a chance this summer with our general lack of forwadage, petrov being w*nk etc then I'll be surprised if he does make it here to be honest. Might still mean he goes out on loan (to the championship) at some point, but i would hope if he is as good as we hope he is, he makes our bench at the start of next season.
Re: Loan Watch 2010/11
He isn't a winger btw, not in a million years. A striker playing out wide while he learns the game. Like Wenger planned with Walcott before he ditched the old 4-4-2.

Agreed, he looked phenomenal in the one game he actually played upfront for Swindon in the second leg of the Play-off semis

So if this guy's the way forward, where are we reckoning Petrov will be off to?

Clearly your agenda is just to make Petrov a scapegoat, and therefore he must be good. For some reason.

Well at the moment we have 3 forwards, all of whom are slower than Kevin Nolan on the moon...at least he'd be summat different.

Surely the weightlessness would help a very weightfulness Nolan, non?
