Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
He was our best defender at the time, hence being a bit-better-than-average with the accompanying hyperbole. Sound familiar?
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
He was never close to being in Cahill's class, or with Cahill's potential. However, he was very good for a time, but he made some poor career choices and doesn't appear to have the greatest attitude. Apparently he's still at Pompey. A complete waste.

Didn't BSA shift him to fullback for a while once he knew he was on his way?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Likely destination??
Unlikely now i think as they seem to be turning towards Roger Johnson
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Thoughts on getting Upson in on a free to replace him?

Upson is simply awful, we know this better than most. SKD always has a field day against him.
Much rather a chance on a championship defender.
Boro seem to rate Rhys Williams highly......better than they did Wheater.
Or another Williams. Ashley from Swansea. Either are a gamble but given Upsons wages they would be a comparitively safe bet.

17 million to City or Arsenal??? Mirror story.
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

I fear Birmingham being relegated makes Cahill cheaper? Dann and Johnson are alternatives. I just hope Birmingham has enough money to stave off interest.
I wish Blackburn and Wolves had gone instead of Blackpool and Birmingham.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
If Blackburn had gone down each team in the top 5 would have been fighting for Phil Jones and Samba from Blackburn, imo i still think they will but Cahill will also be near the top of alot of managers transfer list. Dann and Johnson are quality but more mid-table than right at the top and the big money transfer fee's.mullayo wrote:I fear Birmingham being relegated makes Cahill cheaper? There are enough teams in need of centre halves, and bona fide top 4 clubs aren't gonna be sniffing around for Dann unless they have a spare spot on the bench

Won't have done his chances of going to Citeh much good yesterday, he was all over the place.
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Agreed - and three identical long crossfield balls out of play probably dropped his valuation by several millionBWFC_Insane wrote:Won't have done his chances of going to Citeh much good yesterday, he was all over the place.

The latter of which led to the move ahead of their 2nd goal. And I wouldn't mind, but he had a free man to pass to, he needn't have tried it
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
His valuation stands the same. As I understand it, the release clause in his contract stands at 17 million? That's just the starting point for bids then. Granted it's a ludicrous amount of money, but there's a great opportunity to cash in as long as we don't then spunk it on some waste of space like Upson.

That's not just the starting point.. It's the ending point. Nobody will go over that amount. They don't have toBijou Bob wrote:His valuation stands the same. Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
If two clubs want him badly enough the price goes up, no?
Anyway, congratulations Gary. Another cap.

No... because if City offered us £25 Million and Arsenal offered us £17 Million, We'd still be forced to accept Arsenals lower offer.Gary the Enfield wrote:If two clubs want him badly enough the price goes up, no?

So for that reason, nobody would offer more than what his contract (apparently) stipulates.

I think 'apparently' is the key
Like I've heard apparently we are well in the race for Upson
