Whats Gary O'Neill up to these days? And isn't Reo Coker out of contract at Villa?

I don't know whether they're available, in our price range, or indeed want to come. But if we were capable of signing a couple of players like that, and say a young loanee from the top 5/6, surely our midfield would be far stronger next time out than this?

After all, if we add Cahill's and Al Habsi's income and wages to the 6 already off the wage budget, unless we're radically realigning the wage structure, there must be plenty in there for some decent players, no?

Gary O'Neill was at West Ham since Jan(?) he had a couple of niggly injuries that he couldn;t get over. Scored once and looked absolutely shite the rest of the time..

Cardiff have released Jay Bothroyd because he's shite.

I'll second that, saw him a lot at Coventry and never seen someone so slow he often looked like he was running on the spot, made Tony Philliskirk looks like Usain Bolt!

Wasn't the story that Gary O'Neil was looking at suing Reo-Coker, for a challenge which might have ended his career?

Either way, he wasn't very good before that injury, but he won't be going anywhere now.

It has to be one or the other though. The thought of replacing Sturridge and Elmander (20 goals last season) with Nugent and Bothroyd (12 PL goals ever between them) makes me feel a bit ill.

I'm not opposed to either on their own though. That said, strikers who've been shit everywhere else and then suddenly become good at one club worry me (Bothroyd, DJ Campbell).

I'd rather have Seb Larsson than Burke, although the fact he's on a free will likely mean he'll price himself above what he's actually worth.

Absolutely, unless funds are so free flowing we could have both AND another striker. Nugent being a more viable replacement for Blake in the up front or wide area. But yeah, just those two would have me terrified.

I also think we need another central midfielder even if Savis is fit. We cannot go a whole season relying on Holden and Muamba and the injury-prone homophones. Muamba is bollocksed.

I think (if the "and" is an "a") he means - we'd have to close the Reebok like shops do when they close down - with the huge pile of unopened junk mail on the inside of the door. Nugent would apocalypticaly destroy the club.

Pretty much. Bellamy won't be bleeding them dry. Cardiff face a kind of existential ennui at being play-off nearly-men (seventh, fourth and fourth in the last three seasons)

Bellamey was on £90k pw. Cardiff paid £20k of that & Citeh stood for the rest.

What's bankrupted Cardiff is Peter Ridsdale. He did a less visable version there of what he did at Leeds, spending money based on assumed success.

The new ground (Sam Hamman's folly) was built on the 'Field of Dreams' notion of "if you build it, they will come". Well you did .... & they didn't.

Nothing quite beats blind optimism it seems.
