We'll galdly sell him to the highest bidder.

I can see Ben foster being the main target GK on clubs radar this summer. Once he is sold then i can see plenty moving for Ali.

If there are a few clubs interested in Al Habsi then we might command a decent wedge, say 5M for him.

That would be hypothetically be very decent.

Aye thats the problem, same as with Cahill.

I suspect that the one year is less critical if several clubs with more money than sense and one owned by Dave Whelan are in the bidding.

Who knows?

Or more likely need him. Not so easy waiting for a year to possibly get a 1st team keeper.

Al Habsi has two more years, Cahill only one. Christ we're going to be in trouble if we don't find a buyer for Cahill this summer.

As for Ali, we're not going to get Craig Gordon money for him. The going rate is probably about £3.5mil.

This site (which, while maybe full of interesting data, isn't bang up to date and is probably a load of old bollox anyway) values him at just £1.76mil or 2million Euros.

Personally, I think we'd be onto a very good deal if we get anything near 3mil for him.

He's worth what someone will pay for him.

If Whelan is desperate I'm fairly sure we could screw 4M plus out of him. Especially if other clubs are sniffing around.

I don't see any reason why he would be that desperate to sign one particular player. That's very good money for a goalkeeper and there are others out there. IIRC, the only goalkeepers in the entire league to cost more than £4mil are Reina, Gomes, Gordon and Cech.

I agree with you, he's worth what someone will pay for him but I don't believe anyone will be prepared to pay over £3mil. He's really not THAT good.

Absolutely I agree.

But he's Wigans player of the year.

I'd say that adds a couple of million on at least!

Man United's player of the year trophy 2011 might. Wigan's? Not so much. Did you not see how their season panned out?

They were all shite, but he was the best of all that shite. Hardly a ringing endorsement....

Yes, but I think what he's saying is, Wigan might be prepared to pay a little over the odds for a player they considered to be their best.

I understand what people are saying.
But let's call a spade a spade.
Goalkeepers are worth fck all for a start. And Al-Habsi is the Bolton Wanderers reserve goalkeeper. A man who isn't even good enough to play first choice for our team.
Anyone who thinks we're going to get millions and millions for him needs their bumps feeling. Him being Wigan's best player means they might be prepared to pay more for him. But that's maybe the difference between 1.5mil and 2mil as opposed to 4mil and 5mil.

And that's before you factor in that Wigan have already paid us a loan fee of £1million and paid him what, £2million for a years wages already?

If that happens, extend his contract and keep him. If he's as good as the money he'll keep improving and having a quality centre-back wll hardly hurt us.
