Very good spot, sir. I'd say perhaps it's 40% tax, but there's no reason BWFC wouldn't be paying that.Worthy4England wrote:I'm confussled by the 50k figure. The B(E)N report says he cost £8.2m (which I think we all finally agreed upon rather than £11.2) and a further £5m in wages over the 3 years. That would be nearer £32k per week, no?

I wouldn't get out of bed to be honest...
Re: Elmander signs for Galatasaray
I tend not to believe reports about players wages, a lot just seem either made up or rough guesses (how are bonuses included for example?). I still don't believe Danny Shittu and Nicky Hunt were ever on close to £30k a week.
Saying that, I'm sure whatever it was, it was a very good wage for a club of our budget.

Don't know why he just didn't come out and say that he was going to Galatasaray. Still its sickening to see things like this happening on a free.

Never does things by the book does Elmander. Normal people go with the PSG (pitch, shirt, grin)
Elmander goes for the DSRG. Door, Shirt, Retarded Grin. Not to mention the double thumbs up.
I reckon one day, he'll come to regret his move to Gala, but I reckon his biggest regret will be that picture. Shocker.

To be honest I think he reeally regretted his move to Bolton, especially after all the stick he got off the fans and the obvious inability to fit into Megson's style of play. I don't particularly think he'll enjoy his stint at Gala but i'm sure its a new environment for him. Perhaps if he'd've signed a one year extension onto his current deal and played at the level he did at the start of the season just gone he'd've managed to secure a move to a more lucrative club but as it stands he'd not done much to warrant the contract we had given him and we couldn't afford to give him another one based on the fact that he might not have reached his performances again.
When we first signed him I thought 'WHO?' and then it became more and more obvious that we'd wasted a lot of money, but I was confident thinking that its not really a problem because we can sell him on an recoup some of that vast transfer fee that we paid.
If only Elmander would've buggered off a season into his Bolton career it would've done him and the club a world of good, but whose going to pay him stupid money and sign him for anywhere near the amount we paid for him.
We can't blame the player for the price tag but we can blame him for how he's seen out his contract and how he's not given his all at the club. In my eyes its been half hearted for the most of the time, constantly laughing off missed chances and missed opportunities where he should've scored with the evident 'I don't really give a crap' attitude. While Megson decided to spew out vitriol that put himself at the throats of the Bolton fans, Elmander just shrugged off his critics and didn't attempt to win anyone over, he perhaps epitomises what Megson was about in all but the press comments. I'd imagine few will look back and think that this was another way for Megson to shaft the Bolton fans but only Megson will truly know how he felt about signing Elmander.

Johan who? He's history. Not Bolton anymore. We'll manage without him. Onwards.

Re: Elmander signs for Galatasaray
In fairness, all those saying he'll fail, Ariza pissing Makakula was there or therabouts top scorer wise not too long ago, Colin Kazim Richards is a god, a one-kneed Harry Kewell is a Sampions Lig star. Fat (Brazilian) Bastard from Austin Powers broke records. Elmander will do well.

Re: Elmander signs for Galatasaray
We have signed many a good player on a free over the years so we cannot complain too much when we lose one. Yes I know he was our record signing and on reflection was not one of our better ones but that is football.
Just the players who I can think of who arrived on a free are:
Eidur, Jay Jay, Djorkaeff, Campo, Stelios, Heirro, Candela, Kevin Davies, Ali Al-Habsi and of course Stu Holden to name but a few. Some of these had been released by their respective clubs so it was not quite the same.

Do not trust atoms. They make up everything.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Bosman rules exist. We'll win some, se'll lose some. That's how it is.
Elsewhere on here we are arguing about how much we can get for Cahill, so he doesn't become a Bosman. Yet let's say Holden, once fit again, says he wants out & we sell we'll all be whinging like hell about having no ambition. We're quick to say we want Al Habsi back & Jussi can drop to being a reserve ... but if last year Jussi had wanted to leave we'd have been calling him names for it.
Swings & roundabouts I'm afraid.

Yeah was reading Gartside on the BBC and thought to put it into perspective:malcd1 wrote:We have signed many a good player on a free over the years so we cannot complain too much when we lose one. If we'd have paid the opposite each for both of them it wouldn't seem half as bad for elmander flopping here.
