I'm assuming Coyle has some feel for that, which is why we still have him here. The pre-season will show if he's in line for a shout this year. I'd have been happier to have seen in tested this year at Championship level after doing so well for Swindon last time.

At 19+ he needs to show he's thereabouts.
He was sent out to the championship but had to return through injury. Probably dampened his progress somewhat.

In a hypothetical world where Danny Ward had not moved from Leeds to Bolton and instead had gone to Huddersfield.....

I'd be interested to know how many folk who watched the final yesterday in that scenario would be banging on about Ward and how we should sign him.

I'm certain it would be a big fat zero!

He looks a decent enough player, seems a hard working lad with a smidgen of pace. But my only point is he's nowhere near the premiership level IMO.

He also appears to have been 19 for 3 years! From his DOB I make him 20, turning 21 in December.

20 year-old Danny Ward signed for the Club ahead of the away game at Brentford in mid March. The winger signed on loan from Bolton Wanderers until 31 May 2011.

that would be an entirely different question to the one that is actually being asked - as you well know. It is a very different question to ask:

"should we play someone who the club already thinks is good enough for a contract because we gave him one?"

to the question:

"should we sign someone who we know virtually nothing about other than seeing him on the telly?"

Coyle impressed with his Huddersfield form;

"I’ve been delighted with his level of performances,” said Coyle.

"He is a terrific young player who is only going to get better.”

I'm sure Coyle says that about everyone, I agree the lad deserves a chance, can't see him doing any worse than rodrigo.
