When BOTH of them were playing well. I'd say when they were both playing well neither was particular better than the other.CAPSLOCK wrote:Oh dearLiOC wrote:and there's no way Elmander was better than him when both of them were playing well.

They're not, don't worry. Caps won't swallow his pride and admit he went a bit overboard about Elmander when he first arrived, thats all.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Well, it's not imporatnt
Suffice to say, I hope neither of them start more than a dozen games for us next season

It was last November wasn't it? In consecutive weeks he was Gudjohnsen with pace then Okocha I think. In fairness when he was good he was shit hot. Just not often enough for an £8million pound man. Still rather he was staying like.

Probably a couple less than Elmander. So all we have to do is buy a player who can score a couple more than Davies.
Which can't be hard, because he's shit.

Every chance Coyle will find said player
My worry is that he'll keep him as Knights understudy

Just had a nightmare image of Knight playing upfront...CAPSLOCK wrote:Every chance Coyle will find said player

50 grand a week's alot of money though
Re: Team goal of the season - The Guardian awards it to Bolt
When Elmander was on top form, he was one of the better players in the division (and presumably somewhere in his luggage he'll be carrying a trophy which suggests just that). I don't think Davies has ever reached that level in his career, but it's unfair to compare them like that. It's his consistency which has seen him become a legend here, the focal point of a good top divison side, whereas Johan has never really settled anywhere.
FWIW though, our performance against Wigan away in the Cup was easily the best of the four times we played against them last season.
It's all academic anyway, Davies is here and Elmander isn't. Only a matter of weeks ago Coyle said that Davies will easily play another 100 games for us. He'll be the first name on the team-sheet next season.

Not saying much though is it?Tombwfc wrote:FWIW though, our performance against Wigan away in the Cup was easily the best of the four times we played against them last season.
I'm having to pick and choose games now due to work, and I chose those 4...oh dear.

So let me get this straight.... your initial argument was that "the two times Davies didn't play we were awful ergo he is crucial to us".LiOC wrote:Not saying much though is it?Tombwfc wrote:FWIW though, our performance against Wigan away in the Cup was easily the best of the four times we played against them last season.

Ok, so the first game you mention, Burnley away, we rested most of the team and indeed Elmander did not play either so I'm not sure any evidence can be taken from that game.
The second game you mention, you are now saying that it was a better performance than the other three games against Wigan where Davies did play. In fact the only time we beat Wigan last season Davies did not play.
Hardly compelling evidence is it. In fact I'd say it suggests more that we could cope without having Davies in the team week in week out, and sometimes we may well be better off!

Davies actually came on at Wigan as I recall. And improved us immeasurably as a team when he did.

Sorry, is there a cut off as to when you can improve the team?
You'll be handing out style points like the world cup winners next with the route you're taking.

Ok, I'll admit it was a very flawed argument. My point was more that when he doesn't play there is a very clear Davies sized gap in our attack. You can disagree with that, but whether it's due to us playing through Davies too much or his influence on the game, I genuinely feel if he'd have played the game wouldn't have been so dire.BWFC_Insane wrote: So let me get this straight.... your initial argument was that "the two times Davies didn't play we were awful ergo he is crucial to us".

And when Davies came on, 84th minute or not, it was the first time we looked like a team. It may have been our best performance againt wigan, but we were poor and wigan's team was understrength too.

If you look at all the points we've accumulated since Davo started playing for us, and compare it to only those games when he's missing, points-wise, the "fall off the precipice because Davo isn't playing", doesn't happen. We actually get slightly more points...
