Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Or another way to look at it, he's coming to the last 12 months of his contract, 1.5M + 1.5-2M in wages. Over 3M. Will his contribution for the upcoming season be worth 3M? For being a 'goalscoring midfielder' he got a grand total of two last year. Simply doesn't fit in with Coyle's system. In a 4-3-3/4-5-1 under Megson he was very effective and a very handy first team player to have. Now at best he's a 'goal threat' who can't get in the right positions to score goals. He has a handy left foot, but so does Petrov. Both are less than perfect for a number of reasons, but if we're being 1.5M for one of them, I'd be snapping their hands off and relucantly using the other- rather than reluctantly having both of them, one in the first team burning wages and the other on the bench, burning wages.Tombwfc wrote:Why would we sell Taylor? And who could we possibly buy for £1.5mil?
He's currently our first choice left midfielder, and is one of only four players on our books who you'd expect to put the ball in the net next season (the other three being Davies, Klasnic and Lee). I can see the point about him possibly not fitting in to Coyle's idea for how he wants us to play, but giving him away for that is just creating more work to do in this transfer window.
Neither Taylor or Petrov will be here in 12 months time, stands to reason we should try and recoup some money for at least one of them now, because we'll have to buy a long-term left midfielder in the next 12 months. Better now whilst we might have a bit to spend, than next year which at the moment is unpredictable.
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
I agree, he doesn't really fit in with Coyle's system as it was last season, but then Coyle's system away from home seems flawed anyway. West Brom are a side who look to play a similar style (although Hodgson has them playing 4-4-2 at home, and more of 4-5-1/4-4-1-1 away) - if Woy thinks Taylor could do a job for them, then I'd wonder why he couldn't for us. It's not like the alternative is all that great, or if there has been any suggestion of a better replacement we could bring in (and if we did buy a replacement, surely either him or Petrov would have to sit on the bench, burning wages?).
Will we have more to spend this summer than next? Presumably we won't have to buy a centre half, a central midfielder and two strikers next summer. Take that out of the budget, and there won't be much left.

Big Sam really is working his magic if they're expecting to pay that much for a 30 year old.

Tell them we'll not accept anything less than 3.

"According to reports Bolton Wanderers are interested in Reading defender Matt Mills.
It is understood that Wanderers boss Owen Coyle is eyeing the stopper who Reading are desperate to keep.
Reading are trying to hold onto their best players having narrowly missed out on promotion from the Championship after defeat in the play-off final to Swansea City.
It is understood that Wanderers will faced competition from Swansea for the former Manchester City and Southampton defender.
It is believed Reading are holding out for a fee of £3 million."

I like Matt Mills. He's a fairly solid defender who could probably make that step up in quality.
If we can get him for a similar price to Wheater- 2-2.5M I'd be pleased.

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Is he quick though? I think in order for Wheater succede we need a quick defender to play off him.
One of the reasons I think that Wheater/Cahill worked so well

I'll be honest in that I haven't seen much of Mills, but a quick glance through a reading forum suggests they think they have a backline severely lacking in pace.TKIZ! wrote:Is he quick though? I think in order for Wheater succede we need a quick defender to play off him.

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
The other members of their back-line are all about 78 though I think. I've never seen anybody run slower than Ian Harte did in the play-off final before Swansea's second.
I don't know enough about Mills to comment. Unless he's going to be out of contract soon I'd expect us to have to pay the best part of £5mil for him, so for that reason I'm out.

I remember him being highly rated whilst at City, but I think he left when they got took over and it was obvious he wasn't going to get into the first team.

Intriguing price. Sort you might pay for a loanee who just won Player of the Year and kept your side in the Premier League, perhaps.Tombwfc wrote:Unless he's going to be out of contract soon I'd expect us to have to pay the best part of £5mil for him, so for that reason I'm out.
