Intriguing price. Sort you might pay for a loanee who just won Player of the Year and kept your side in the Premier League, perhaps.
I see what you did there. Sir, I have to hand it to you it was nothing short of genius

I'm missing the connection.

Dann, Johnson and Cahill are all centre-halves who are English and were of a similar-ish age, having played mostly in the Championship. They all went for £4-5mill.

Also, Reading bought him for £2mil two years ago, he seems to have done quite well since and is their captain, I'd expect them to want some kind of profit on that fee. Especially if they see we've just sold our centre half for £17 million.

I am our chief scout it seems. I'd be well happy with Mills as GC's replacement, and would be delighted if it was at £3million. As Tom says, similar good young english centre halves from that division have been going for about £5million. Which wouldn't be bad business. Wouldn't pay much more though.

From what I saw in the play-offs, particularly the away semi-final, I'd be very happy with Mills as a replacement. Seemed very solid with good awareness. Can't say I noticed the pace thing maybe because he didn't seem to expose himself  Also took his goal well in the final so would seem to be a goal threat from set-pieces ©.

Definately a goal threat from set pieces. Powerful in the air and seems to be solid at the back.
Wouldn't go overboard yet but may be worth a punt.

Mills is a good shout! an even better one is Swansea's Ashley Williams.

Is that an amalgam of "short" and "shite"? Or a reference to him being a shorter Shittu?

Mills looked decidedly average in the final albeit better than card-magnet Kushnavilli and Harte who turns like the Titanic. Though I thought I heard that they had been on a run of cleansheets before that game.

I trust the boss on this one. Wheater was a great buy for my money so he's not Wenger when it comes to centrebacks.
I agree with TKIZ our next one needs to be of the quicker variety though we have the twin towers already.

Actually, I think it's "shite" in an Irish accent...

today's Bolton News (online) says this: (nothing really new)
MANCHESTER City are closing in on Gary Cahill – with either Nedum Onuoha or Dedryck Boyata, or both, set to move in the opposite direction.

Arsenal were leading a host of clubs in the race to sign the Wanderers defender, with Gunners star Jack Wilshere admitting to “tapping” him up at England’s training camp last week.

But The Bolton News understands big-spending City are red-hot favourites to sign the sought-after 25-yearold.

Cahill has a £17million buyout clause in his contract but Owen Coyle wants players plus cash as he looks to strengthen his wafer-thin squad over the summer.

Blues stars Onuoha, Boyata, Craig Bellamy and Shaun Wright-Phillips have all been linked with Wanderers as possible makeweights in a swap deal.

But the Bolton manager is not interested in Bellamy while winger Wright-Phillips’ £60,000-a-week wages would destabilise the salary structure at the Reebok.

Coyle is desperate for defenders and either – or both depending on negotiations – £7m-rated Onuoha, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland, and Belgian youngster Boyata plus money would represent excellent business.

The duo’s versatility appeals to the Bolton boss, with both comfortable at centre half or right back, especially with Sam Ricketts unlikely to be fit for the start of next season after rupturing his Achilles against Wigan in February.

Nigerian-born Onuoha, aged 24, came through the youth system with City but he was deemed surplus to requirements by Roberto Mancini and shipped out on loan to the Stadium of Light 12 months ago.

He is not part of the City manager’s plans for next season as the Italian looks to build a squad capable of challenging on two fronts after qualifying for the Champions League.

Boyata could be harder to prise away. The 20-year-old, who joined City from FC Brussells in 2006, is well thought of at Eastlands after making 16 appearances last term, including starting in the 2-0 victory against Wanderers on the final day of the campaign.

A Wanderers XI will play friendlies at Newport County, from the Conference, on Saturday, July 30 at 3pm, and League Two’s Hereford United on Monday, August 1 at 7.30pm.

The gossip column on Football365 has said we've had a £5m bid for Cameron Jerome rejected.

Good I'm glad it got rejected. He was championship level striker, scored a bag of goals given a shed load of chances and I bet he instantly regresses again if he shows up here.

Love the Man City rumour though. $10m cash for Cahill + Onuoha and Boyata on loan. Done.

Onuoha is some sort of IQ genius isn't he? Very quick, tough, tall enough at 1.88m and could play a few positions. How did he go for Sunderland this year? Scored a cracking goal against Chelsea. Awesome.

Which shirley is worthy of a 10 point deduction for next season and both him and Wenger facing a six match ban each?

And they should have to give us two players of our choosing.

We're linked with selling Cahill to them though and getting Bassong from Spurs. Wouldn't it be simpler and a lot cheaper for us to get Bassong + cash from Spurs for Cahill. I like Bassong by the way. For a former Toon defender he's brilliant.

Did they reject it on the grounds that it was far too much ?
