Great deal if we could get those 2 decent players IMO and some Cash, I doubt Boyata will want to move so i would be happy with Onuoha and 10mil.

Personally i think he a good player but since coming to us from the massives up the road he has got the billy big bollocks about him. If he got his head down he could be more positive for the team.

I don't think there's too much to question over Petrov's ability, just he attitude and motivation. I don't think settling in has anything to do with that.

According to reports Manchester City are backing out of the chase for Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill.

The Sun claims Wanderers are demanding £17 million to land Cahill.

However, while City boss Roberto Mancini is known to have Cahill on his list of summer targets, it seems he is not prepared to meet that valuation.

In addition, Kolo Toure’s return in early September from a drugs ban means the hunt for a centre-back has become less pressing.

City are the only ones (interested) with the cash and the mindset to pay the release fee. Liverpool have a rebuilding job on and have spent big on Henderson – BUT that's also the problem: they've spent big on Henderson (and are apparently set to buy Charlie Adam for a frankly bonkers £8m). United are signing Phil Jones to partner Chris Smalling medium-term, Arsenal won't spend that sort of money on ANY f*cker and Chelsea have only ever been linked with Cahill in the week running up to them playing us.

Assuming there's no rouble-rich Russians eyeing up our Gaz, City are the only team likely to pay anything like the lucre we'd like. Otherwise we'd be entering a frustratingly slow-moving world of low-ball bids and sneaky unsettlement (eh, Master Wilshere?), while our own targets might well be moving on elsewhere.

I know I joked with Tombwfc earlier this week (re Al-Habsi) that it's no time to panic, but selling Cahill for £££ has been the bedrock of pretty much everybody's summer plans - not just on here, I'm guessing, but also at BWFC, where Gartside and Coyle have made little secret of their intention to rebuild a paper-thin squad with the incoming fee. This latest may well be a bullshit story or simply Mancini (or rather Garry Cook) trying to sabre-rattle, but it's chilled my blood more than any news since Holden's injury - and in truth it could have a much longer-term effect.

To be fair, The Sun doesn't really report that at all. The only line in there was;

"But Eastlands sources indicated the trail had gone cold as he had a shaky end to the season."

Nothing about not wanting to stump up the fee, that's just a figment of Click Lancashire/Manchester's imagination.

Although the line in the Sun doesn't make much sense. He's had his shaky end of the season over a month ago. Unless City's scouting was saving our matches on SkyPlus, and they decided to get through the omnibus of Corrie before they got onto our games, they wouldn't have suddenly decided to pull out of the deal now, they wouldn't have been in for him in the first place.

It was interesting to read that Wenger held talks with Phil jones last night. Perhaps Arsenal aren't quite out of the race yet. Their fans are demanding a centre-back, and it's unlikely Blackburn will let Samba go now that Jones is on his way to United.

Wenger's hand might be forced to overpay- although that of course is on the basis that City still maintain their interest.

Mancini is also looking at Vincent Kompany's Belgium team-mate Jan Vertonghen, who could be bought for a lot less than Cahill from Ajax.

Kompany is convinced he would be an excellent addition for City, particularly as he could be used as a left-back or a defensive midfielder, even though his boss wasn't totally impressed by him following a recent scouting trip.

"You hear 40 names per month of players who could move to Manchester City. However, it is not a coincidence that Vertonghen is linked with the club," Kompany told the Manchester Evening News.

"Jan is ready to make the next step and is good enough for City.

"I am sure that he will succeed at his next club, regardless of whether he joins us or decides to move elsewhere. He is simply a fantastic footballer."
