Re: Coyle joint favourite for Aston Villa job
Wasn't one of the reasons Martin O'Neill left Villa because the owners wouldn't put in the amount of money he felt was needed to get the club in top the top 4? if coyle was to leave he'd need nailed on promises, budget wise, and is something i just cant see happening. This and the fact Bolton would be due a fair wedge of compensation and with the amount of good managers out of work at the moment i think all the work necessary to bring coyle to Villa (coyle is still not seen as a 'proven' manager at the highest level..) just wouldn't be worth it.

The money was there.. But not for O'Neill.. They were sick and tired of him brining in 4 players fro each position and telling the board to give them top whack wages.
It was Megson-esque.. He'd need a midfielder, but he'd spend his budget on full backs. Then he'd bitch and moan about not having any money for the midfielder he should have signed.

He turned down Celtic because A The-Wanderer XI would come third in that league.
Nay way would Coyle turn down Villa. Too many Burnley fans on here. Sideways step stuff. They have a £24million striker. And a miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiles better team on paper. Sure football isn't played on paper, but look at the difference OC made to our lot, and think of the same effect at Villa. He won't be offered it though.

I don't think its so much Coyle taking Villa, as Villa taking Coyle that I can't see just yet.
I think those last 6 weeks of this season saved us a whole raft of this type of speculation this summer.

Got to say that if Villa come looking then OC will be off
Re: Coyle joint favourite for Aston Villa job
I remember reading similar from Burnley fans circa November 2010. Villa have a good squad and owners willing to spend more than Eddie, it is a step up and Coyle's an ambitious man.

It is a step up and he is an ambitious man. And there's nowt more likely to tarnish a reputation and spoil a career than buggering off from every job before you've had the chance the prove whether you're any good or not. Besides, the size of any football club is inversely proportional to the amount of time the board and fans will give a manager to deliver success before sacking him.Horza wrote:I remember reading similar from Burnley fans circa November 2010. I'm sure Coyle hasn't forgotten that he got a lot of stick after he left Burnley.
Mind that said, I too think he'd take the job if it was offered. We'll then get Dave Jones in as replacement....

Re: Coyle joint favourite for Aston Villa job
McClaren was certainly the safe "alternative vote" choice for England, but he's a very capable manager - taking Boro to a Euro final, FFS, and then backwater Twente to their first ever title – and he could do well at Villa. Depends how over-inflated the fans' self-esteem is. There's definite potential there but they've only won two League Cups in the last 30 years and despite the rich owner (not as rich as he originally seemed, pre-recession) they've definitely become a "trading" club, every summer losing a key man – Gareth Barry, James Milner, and now Ashley Young's off to Old Trafford...

BBC's Pat Murphy says McClaren will not be considered due to negative reaction of Villa fans on forums. Jeez.

Rumours that Dave Whelan has given Villa permission to speak to Martinez.
Could work out more lucrative for us with Al Habsi. Rather him him going to Villa too.
Hopefully happens and Wigan end up with the kind of tinpot manager they deserve.

Are Megsons odds shortening on a Premier return?

Martinez's odds have shortened, he now seems to be favourite.jimbo_bwfc wrote:Rumours that Dave Whelan has given Villa permission to speak to Martinez.

Hoping this works out too, and Wigan get someone who'll finally send them down.
