Jerome is essentially a rough around the edges Davies MK:II with lots more pace and movement.

If Coyle is interested, then it seems pretty obvious Davies is going to be eased out gradually next year (which is a good thing for BWFC in long-term) or pushed out completely before the season starts (terrible idea, if I'm honest).

Jerome is not worth 8M, but then I don't for a second believe we've had a bid rejected of 5M. More likely we've gone in with a low 2-3M bid and we'll end up trying to deal at around 5M.

If we can work on Jerome using his capabilties and becoming a target man (and he definitely has that in his locker, he man-handled Wheater and Cahill more effectivley than Davies has any of his opponents last season bar the usual West Ham and Spurs) then he could be a decent long-term investment.

The problem is, he has all the same weaknesses, he's fecking crap in and around the box, for a Premier League striker.

Depends really, we've gotten to Europe having Kevin Davies lead the line on his lonesome. He's never been much good in front of goal. All about who we'd put around him.

Jerome isn't in the Davies quality of creating chances yet, but perhaps he has that within him.

Jerome is widely hated by Birmingham's supporters, a promising player physically but he's gone completely backwards the last few years. That goal against us in the cup is about all he did last season and it should've been saved.

If we line up with him in the starting XI on opening day the Elmander haters will have their new target.

I'd still take Nugent...

Gotta agree with this. Brummies have not been impressed with him at all.

On top of this, I know Davo might be coming to the end of his career, but at the moment he is not priority to replace. If we end up with two Davies eque players, Klasnic who struggles to play anything more than a super sub role and Robbie Blake, we will be relegated as there will be nowhere for the goals to come from. We need a goalscorer first and foremost.

indeed - he is! and not worth £5mill of our limited purse.

what I am asking is that if we are suggesting that a player the calibre of Bendtner is "shit" - not good enough for us (regardless of whether he'd come or not) - then which higher calibre strikers are we holding out for?

I suspect that if we sign a striker - he will be from the shit pile (if Bendtner is in that pile, then everyone we can afford will be) - that's where we're shopping - and we'll have to hope that where there's muck there's brass... ie that Coyle can polish a turd.

Only hated by a small section though, looking on the Birmingham forum the majority would be gutted to see him leave.

I think we're always going to be disappointed to be fair. We're never gonna get a striker of a fantastic goalscoring ability (unless we get Sturridge back or find someone with his potential elsewhere). I think the major objection to Bendtner would be that he has a rubbish attitude, I think if he'd lower himself to our level he'd be a great signing. I think the issue with Jerome is that he's a championship calibre striker who just helped get a team relegated. Can imagine Coyle is much more realistic than we are about it, and knows what sort of striker we can attack, better than the fans who are dreaming of a striker to fire us back into European contention.

It's Coyle's chance to build a team of his players so we'll have to have faith.

We wanted him as manager so we'll have to support the players he gets.

Just said it elsewhere but campbell would be a much better bet, 13 goals in another gung ho outfit last season. Wouldn't cost 5million either.

I agree... but questions about his attitude are not the only objections to him..

he has also been described in the last 2 pages as "shit" and "f ucking rubbish"

as you say though - 'tis academic - because he wouldn't agree to come to us... quite what his future is at Arsenal, I don't know (and don't particularly care!) I suspect that (at least partly) circumstances have been his enemy - when he has had the occasional "window" through wich to shine at Arsenal - it is because VP or Tiny Tears have been injured - and he is expected to be them... and the pressure builds on his precious little shoulders. we'll never find out - but i wonder if a less pressured spell at a club like ours - with a long confidence-building run of first-team appearances - might do him the world of good... (he did score 11 in 42 at Brum - and he was quite a bit younger and less experienced back then...) he has a similar strike-rate at Arsenal - and a better one (about 1 in 3) for denmark - consistently higher than our current options...

Academic anyway. We'll never find out. Fair enough, maybe someone who claimed he was "F*cking rubbish" might wanna justify it?
I think he might actually enjoy being the big star at a smaller club and confidence building.

As for Campbell, at the beginning of the season it would have been a resounding "no" but he did impress last year. Plus, doesn't he have a reasonably small clause in his contract? Would be much less of a risk than Jerome imo.

As lesser of two evils, DJ Campbell would be preferrable. Interestingly didnt he bomb at Birmingham, only to revive his fortunes at another club...could Jerome do the same?

Linked with Getafe's midfielder Derek Boateng who is 28. Toon, Wigan, Mackems all interested.

According to reports Celtic winger Jamie Forrest is interesting Bolton.

Also, from Scotland McGinley urging us to get Badwillie the rapist (allegedly).
What could've happened; did.

Don't Monaco want around 5m for Park Chu-Young? Would rather go for him than Jerome.

Figures arent the only reason.

A player has to actually want to come in the first place.
