Martinez opts to remain at Wigan after Villa approach
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has chosen to remain at Wigan after Aston Villa made an approach for his services.
Martinez, 37, is expected to take up an improved contract with the Latics instead of the chance to manage Villa.
"Roberto met with his chairman earlier this week and he has made the decision to honour his commitment to Wigan," read a Villa statement.
"Therefore, we have not met Roberto and we have not had the chance to discuss the vacant managerial role with him."
Businesswoman of the year.

Martinez has bottled it. Clearly.
He can now go back to Wigan next year, and if he takes them down which will quite possibly happen, say "Hang on, I stuck with you last year when Villa came knocking for me, you've got to stick by me". If Whelan sacks him he's a nasty man and Martinez has been shafted, if not, he's still in a job.
Where as at Villa, if after 6 months things are going wrong and the fans were on his back, he'll be out of the door as a failure at a big club!

Probably with a nice pay rise to boot.
However he's a bit damned if he does and damned if he doesnt.
If OC stayed if they approcahed him, we'd be calling him loyal as opposed to a bottler.

Gartside is clearly stroking Owen's ego to keep him on board.tell ben im him wrote:Well now that has got me worried I don't believe a word that comes out of gartsides mouth or anything out of his back pocket for that matter.TANGODANCER wrote:In an article in today's BN, praising OC, Phil Garside claims his future is at the Reebok despite being linked with the Villa job. Sounds positive?
Meanwhile, The Guardian says:
It is believed Villa's thoughts will now turn to the Bolton manager, Owen Coyle.

Hopefully just paper talk for OC moving.
I suspect the sale of Cahill (now hotting up again with Arsenal) would be a large factor in him staying if he is given the cash to continue to build his own squad.

Not beyond the realms of possibility this one
Mind you if he thinks Cameron Jerome is the answer I'm less bothered about him going!

Still bitter? Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they poach Eddie Howe from Bournemouth?

Just a little snippet out of an article in Telegraph.
"The same applies to Coyle, the Bolton manager whose representatives are believed to have indicated to the Midlands club that he would be interested in discussing the post. He had initially been ruled out by Villa because of the cost of extricating the Scot from the contract he signed at the Reebok Stadium last year."

Rumours are going around twitter that coyle has resigned. Probably completely unfounded.

Re: Coyle joint favourite for Aston Villa job
I don't see any benefit for Coyle in moving to Villa, yes a bigger club but not one in his heart which is the reason he came here in the first place and with losing Young, Friedel and potentially Downing then its more than a rebuild job.

To be fair mate, was just one Celtic fan. Easily escalated between BWFC twitter contingent probably due to craziness of it. Doubt he'd go that far, even if he did want it. That's lowest of the low as far as I'd be concerned.LiOC wrote:Rumours are going around twitter that coyle has resigned. Probably completely unfounded.
If he did want the job badly, I can't be the only person thinking, the 7-9M in compo would be much more attractive than Coyle. He's good, he's not THAT good.
