and - given all the ideal talk about release clauses and what they mean....
ManU and Jones...
ManU and Jones...
and we're already hearing that Liverpool have bid £22mill - a whole £5.5mill ABOVE the release clause.. why???A major headache for United is in the interpretation of the release clause in Jones’s contract. They triggered it with their £16.5m offer and were allowed to talk to the player as a result.
But Rovers have taken legal advice and insist the clause does not force them to sell to the first club to meet the figure.

Probably because they haven't but I would like to think its because they're stupid.thebish wrote:and - given all the ideal talk about release clauses and what they mean....

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Or, cos it's not a release clause, its a price at which Jones can talk to interested clubs, Liverpool bid plenty to get an acceptance early doors from Rovers saving a month of umming n ahhhing
I'm not too sure why such a clause would exist, but that seems to be the understanding of Blackburn

If arsenal fans think they're getting a no nonsense leader in defence they are wrong. That isn't what Cahill is, he's a good tackler, a goal threat, very quick for a defender and really comfortable with the ball at his feet.Abs wrote: Arsenal fans seems to be very divided on him, alot of them feel he's very overrated and not someone who would bring whats needed to the defence. It seems like people in here dont mind losing him for a good fee, I thought he was the player that held your defence together?
I think we need a lot more than Cahill to help zat knight(mare) and steinsson's lapses in concentration and lack of positioning awareness while robbo plays from the heart but is limited. He's a class above the rest of our defence and we need the cash for putting some depth into our squad. I'll be sad to see him go, he's a great player, but the money (for us at least) is more than worth giving him up.

As long as its £20m plus him, then not a problem.
If they think some unheard of kid on loan for a year is going to knock a few million off the deal, then they're in cloud cuckoo land.

apparently they describe him as "promising".... so promising that despite all their CBs being shite or injured last season - they forgot all about him....

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
hmmm... if the reports are true - then Wenger is saying: "We've got big defensive problems - we want Cahill. To replace him - why not have this kid who we don't really have much confidence in." this - despite the fact that (arguably) we have a greater need than arsenal for a decent back four given the more sustained level of attack that we face week after week....seanworth wrote:Aye but look at the magical results that we do with our loanees.thebish wrote:Lord Kangana wrote:As long as its £20m plus him, then not a problem.

he has played twice for Arsenal - the 2 legs of the FA Cup against Leyton Orient
he was captain of the reserves 2009/10, he played twice for spain U16 and 4 times for spain U19 (scoring one goal)
the ones we did well with both had some prem experience - he has never played a premiership game...

Why don't we just swap him for Sturridge?

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Few rumours that Arsenal have caved and offered the full 17M. City still the favourites though because it sounds as if Cahill genuinally wants to go there.
Even more rumours that Cahill was at Man City last Friday sorting out his terms with them- we've yet to sort out a fee with them yet.
If Arsenal have had a bid accepted, it might force City's hand to get the move sorted out quickly rather than fannying around - even a few suggestions that Liverpool might try and get him with Jones on his way to United.
All rumours, maybe's and whispers though at the moment really. Something concrete would be nice. Good to see there is plenty of interest though, it's definitely in our best interests to get this deal done ASAP so we can go and buy some players.

I still think City are in the driving seat and are just trying to move want away Boateng to Bayern first. Like has been said though, if Arsenal are making big noises it might force City to get moving.

he should get his haircut in that "high and tight" kinda style he used to have.
